Part of what I do in real life is to understand what is likely to develop in the near and far future in both technologies and political aspects. Then, to project the behavior of societies, actually people, given these developments.

There was one cross species transplant baboon heart in a small child who was dying for lack of a "donor". The child lived for 21 days before her kidneys and finally her donated heart failed. Prior transplants with simian hearts failed in hours. I think there were about five attempts.

Pig heart valves were used for a significant time as replacement valves in human hearts. These have been successful. I think that valves grown from human tissue are now used.

Animal rights [SPAM] are strongly opposed to cross species transplants. But we eat animals to sustain health. Is it much different to use their organs?
