Hi to the Admin and Moderators, as well as any other members interested in this discussion. ^_^

I'm still a fairly new member, but so far I'm really loving this site! Although I was a little frustrated when I found I couldn't add an image to my signature. :( I've noticed that some other forums have [img][/img] brackets around a web-site link to show it up as an image rather than a link. I was wondering if that would be possible here?

Thank you all for your time! Have a wonderful day!

So how would you plan on using the [img] tags without breaking the no hotlinks rule?

no we don't allow "off-site images" But you can change your avatar daily, and your personal photo on your profile. If it is a nude image you wish to display, make three of them and you can start your own thread in the homemade section ;)

That was a bit harsh gentlemen, she was only asking a question. One I'm sure has been on the minds of many forum members as many other forums do allow images in signatures.
This is beaker's forum and his word is law, but if I might make a suggestion I would suggest that users create a small image (maximum 100 x 300 & 80kbs for example) to load as thier personal photo, then allow them to use the [img][/img] code in thier signature. That way the image is hot linked from this forum only and no where else. The only drawback to all of this is that the more image intesive the page the longer it will take to load. Dial up users will especially be affected by this.

Just my two cents,

Zimmm

the responses were firm because hotlinking jeopardizes the safety/security of the site - if members are allowed to write html and hotlink - they can effect everyone with viruses ect ect ect... there are always those outside forces looking for ways to create havoc amongst our community - the admin has taken even greater steps of recent to prevent that - like flood contol - eliminating link posting and voting by noobs are just examples of the measures taken to protect the members of the site... it would be a huge step backwards for site security...

as Pick pointed out - there is the avatar option as well as a personal photo allowed in the profile -with that said - profiles aren't a personal billboard for members to press thier own agendas and ideas - thats why we run a forum here - and thats why we have so many categories - so that there is a place for everyone to express themselves no matter what thier interest is... at this point some of the signatures have already just become ridiculous - damn novels!

a few more noteworthies to mention - give em an inch and they want the other 9  we already battle to keep people from abusing the profile pic to avoid auto censors - by placing personal information in text in the pic like emails - even phone numbers  and even worse - spam - with them being confined to profiles it minimalizes exposure until it can be caught ;)

and finally - yeah - it would be yet another strain on our resources - that could be put to much much better use

hope that helps explain our stance :)

Aliens from Mars use them to install root-kits on our iPods. Duh!!!

No, honestly, I don't know that one. Possibly related to the no images thing, but I don't honestly know.

Because IPB doesn't parse signatures for smiley codes, which only leaves the [img] tag...

...round and round she goes :)
