Erect ears (cropped, or prick alike), muscular, well groomed, a nicely shaped muzzle... Athletic/agile pody, and a generally powerful looking dog. :D Those are my tops anyways, but certain individual dogs can have very spacific, charming traits, either physically or emotionally.

For me it's usually expression, reaction to my voice, basically all the body language you notice before you start really looking for anything ^_^

Heh, I agree with Furis. I notice more the body language and how the animals carries itself for initial interest... however, sometimes a certain fur coloring or a more lean body style will catch my eye, but just like a human relationship, looks can only take you so far if the personality isn't there.

what first attracts me to them like Furis' had mentioned, personality how the dog reacts to my voice and presence. Some breeds I am more attracted to than others but looks are not the most important thing.
as for looks muscular or slight chub unique markings and eye colours. edited as I had spelled furisforfuns name feris' instead of furis'. This post has been edited by Morbid kitten on Nov 14 2006, 08:49 AM |

At the risk of sounding vapid and shallow, I am often attracted by appearances. I am breed sensitive and prefur the look of some breeds over others. But that is not my only criterion, personality ultimately has more sway in whether I like a particular animal. But I am far more likely to try and get to know a specific animal more if its a breed that I find attractive.

I agree totally with Energydog, I'm breed particular (though there can always be some exceptions,).. But if that certain dog ends up being overly timid then that's a turn off... if hte dog is overly immature, that's also a turn off... same goes for obnoxious/irratic behavior,... I'm attracted to the calm yet dominant demeanored ones, outgoing but not annoyingly pushy (I don't mind some pushyness ;) )...

My first reaction is, how social is he, then how big is he, then I wonder if he could please me without me getting bitten or scratched down there.

I go for big, powerful looking dogs, square shaped mussels (muzzels? muzzles? <_< ) If it looks like it could wrestle a bear, that's my kind of dog.
I tend to shun pure-breds, they've got plenty of people to love them, but a hearty, handsome, looking mutt doesn't seem to stand a chance in the pounds, and my heart goes out to them. |

For me theres a BIG difference in an attractive dog and.............a dog. What I look for, facial features. Just like humans, its all about how your eyes, mouth, ears, nose, forehead...everything is fit into a 'context'. Personally I look at facial complexion (mainly eyes and his muzzle area), body tone (not attracted to skiny dogs) Call me picky but, just like the chicks i check out, If i had the chance to see 10-20 german shepherds in one day I might find...........like 4-5 attractive. Where my boi lives therz another dog that lives with him too, i dont find this dog attractive, but it doesnt make me treat him with much different, he just doesnt get the 'sexual' or 'emotional' side of things, i just repsect him as a dog, not a 'lover'.

Sarx hit it on the head for me. Large, powerful, and dominant do it for me. I prefer short hair to long hair, but if the breed is longhaired it absolutely has to be straight. I don't know why I don't care for curly hair in dogs or humans. It just is what it is I guess. |

well i guess the first thing for me would be the dogs size.
anything under like 50 pounds, i still love them as a dog but i don't think of them in a sexual way. and anything that is WAY too big, i think they are BEAUTIFUL but also maybe too big for me... so i like something about from 60-80 lbs. i like a dog with medium build.. not really sturdy and stock but definitely not all spindley and skinny either. the fur length and ears and whatnot can be anything, although i guess i have my own little things that are especially good  i dont really like the flat faces or too square of a muzzle, i would prefer a nice just generic-dog looking face. and then theres the personality. too spazzy is a total turnoff but they have to be into humans, cant be totally aloof. i love a dog who is just a calm, loving force, the kind who will just calmly walk up and lay his head in your lap, and look up at you, as if to ask, "what are we gonna do next?" |
