Hello,
I found this thread just a few days ago (it's now Feb 2009) and I've been reading it every night (nearly) since but I've only got to page 69. It's absolutely great GREAT. I lived in NSW for 2 couple of years ~ but that was a while back now. Did try to get back out there later but several things prevented it, always been home sick for the place. Your right, there are some `nasties` out there but "Show respect to the wild-life" and you'll be OK. I have seen `Trap-doors`, `Funnel webs` and `Red-backs` (the nasty 3 in spiders) not to mention many others. Also many snakes including the `Red-bellied black snake`. But if you live in the bush you learn to live with these things. Anyway ~ an absolutely fantastic thread (project). So full of information and `life`. I just found this thread a few minutes ago, literally! Ummm... just finished page 1 and I see I have a lot to go through! :unsure: :)
Mmmm... I wish I found this months ago... I'm planning a trip there in the next little while to see someone that... mmm... has my heart in his hands. :inlove: Like I said, I have a lot to go through... hehehe... As long as there isn't a test when I arrive! LoL |

It's been a while since I added any updates, but this is a topic I don't think I mentioned and to be honest, is a very real part of Australian life...that of 'Bushfires'!
Every summer we face the constant threat of fires and just 3wks ago here in Victoria on Saturday Feb' 11th, all HELL broke loose...literally! Most of you have seen on your news, the devastation of "Black Saturday" and the ensuing days ahead when several complete townships disappeared from the face of the earth, along with over 200 dead...many of these poor souls from the towns of Marysville and Yarra Glen who had no chance. Many other towns were destroyed and/or affected, but these two were by far the worst hit. I'm posting here pictures of the devastation of Marysville... On that day, the temperatures reached up to in some places, 48'C (120'F)! I live only about 35mins. drive from the affected areas and here is the thermometer reading outside on my verandah!!!
