One Sunday in November


Silence forms whence yesterday shells fell,
Humanity rises out of blasted parapets,
Rising and sustaining,
Not sniped down back into the mire

Bells rang out a mournful tune,
No joy to be found after years of loss,

Names largely forgotten,
Remembered deeds of legendary toil, bravery and futile folly

A generation taken,
Spent upon the fields,
Vestiges of superiority bleed away into the mud

Gallantly they strode into the maelstrom of battle,
Giving their lives for country and king,

A country must offer due thanks and respect,
A proud emblem of remembrance upon the breast of every countryman,
Who owes their freedom to the noble sacrifice of the faded youth of old

I was at an auction this morning at 11.00. Even the auctioneer observed the 2 minutes silence. She Who Must Be Obeyed was in the town square when the Town Crier rang his bell and called for silence as well. This was also observed by most people apart from a group of "Yooves" who thought that they would be clever. Some people never learn. :angry:
