I'm thinking of finding homes for the pets who are at my local pound. I'll have one permanent friend for myself(not from the pound) which will be mine alone. Has anyone else tried this, and if so.. what is the best way to advertise? I wouldn't be charging for any fees, and would be for my own self benefit like taking care of wildlife when hurt. I just love animals  (nonsexually). Also, I believe the only canine I'll be able to choose for a permanent pet may be a St. Bernard, unless other evidence is brought to my attention, I've always known the breed to be good around all creatures. Also, since its easier to find homes, should I make sure my own is female? Is the mothering to pound puppies a good thing? I've tons of other questions and thoughts, but I believe I can hold them off for right now.

I think you are thinking of starting a rescue centre??is that right??
I dont know about where you live but here there are breed rescues for every breed so it is possible to rescue a St Bernard. I'm not sure the sex would make any difference as long as you get a dog that is well socialised, but I am not sure I have understood your post

I thought the dog you get is to be your own pet not for rehoming??
Anyway my advice would be to go along to your local dog shelter and have a chat with the staff there about your new venture, perhaps become a foster carer for a rescue centre to begin with that way you will have support and it will give you an idea of how you will cope.
Good luck to you and I hope it all works out for the best with this and puppy breeding you are going to be very busy.

Right, the friend would be mine, not for rehoming.

Yes, a venture to loose money to make me proud for finding homes. Who knows, maybe the community would chip in to help. Living in a small famous town, it only takes one person and others just start walking in to help. I'm proud to be in a city where random strangers will care for another.

I think I'll start out one step at a time. Most of the wildlife I taken care of ranged from large rabits with broken legs to a quad of baby squirrels. They were definitely a chore to handle. I decided, I'm not able to get an akita because of training issues, in the past I wasn't able to train my other dog very well with other animals. With kids yes, but I always had to place the injured friends in another room. Akita, being a awesome power dog, is not acceptable for me which taken a long time for me to accept. :( Once I get settled with rescuing pets, and someone wants a st. bernard(or selected pet), then I'll breed her.

Yes, except currently I'd only be able to rescue 2 at a time + have a st. Bernard. Oh, well maybe I should have explained better on the female. I'm hoping my future friend could be maternal to any puppies(if any) I'd be able to rescue from the shelter. Uncut females often try to puppy love inanimate objects, so I was told to keep around little stuffed puppies around if I kept an uncut female. Trying to rescue the animals is not a small task. As it is, the human who runs the shelter said she rescued 5 canines from being put down. She is a good human.
