Thanks for a great thread Fester. I love these stories
Uber, I must say your story struck a couple of chords with me. The bit about the dog growling at the hallway reminded me of a couple of times when our dog Laddie would just stand in place, apparently staring at nothing, but with hackles raised and a very low growl as if he was feeling extremely threatened. We always laughed it off as him "seeing off the ghosts". When you mentioned the rope marks on the trellis, I remembered something from my recruit training. The previous platoon through our accomodation had one member commit suicide by hanging himself in the shower block. He hung himself from the bar that the shower curtain would go on, and the bar sagged in the middle causing him a very slow death. When we went through you could easily identify which shower stall he used, and the superstitious guys would wait for another stall rather than use it. Some of the blokes swore they had "encounters" at night, so we started calling ourselves "Ghost Platoon". Even had it printed on our T-Shirts. I'll be tracking this thread too, hope there's plenty more to come. |

When I was in boot camp, I had barracks watch. I was making my rounds of the empty barracks area in our building. I get to one are that is under the quarterdeck. They had not used that area for a long time. In the last shower area I check is a recruit that had hung herself. After the autopsy was done they found out she had been there about a week. Needless to say heads rolled for that screw up. Prior to finding her, my company had noticed wierd things happening at night. Our trash cans would be emptied on the floor so the person on watch had to clean it up in case a Company Commander walked in. The washing machines would be turned on and the showers too. After I had found her and she was removed things quieted down some. Just before graduation, we were doing a top to bottom cleaning of our barracks getting ready for final inspection. Our dress blues wearing at the foot of our racks. Each one had a kisses drop in the pocket when the Company Commanders went through to check them. Needless to say they wanted an explaination. I stepped forward and told them what had happened. Needless to say they thought I had lost it. One of the CC's came forward and said she was on duty the night I found this girl. Apparently this girl was our angel and was wishing us all well. One the last day before we all flew out for "A" school or our first commands, we felt her with us. We heard her laughing as she walked out the door. Needless to say there were 98 "sisters" with a special story to tell later in our careers. |

Haven't been able to get back her for a while, but hey...folks, this is great! I knew there'd be others with things to share but didn't expect it to get to page three as quick as this!!!
Thanks to everyone for your input. And Southie I presume it was you who amended the thread title...Thanks mate...Great stuff :D Now I'll continue with another 'Kuruc' incident: At the time, my then fiancee's (will call her Barbara) two younger sisters Jenny and Josie were just girls of around 11 and 14yrs old respectively. Their bedroom was diagonally opposite her's...the larger upper bedroom facing the main Street (see pic). Barb' told me about when the girls were only little, she heard them giggling one time in the middle of the night. She heard her Mother get up to see what the fuss was all about and to tell them to go back to sleep. both girls were sitting up in the same bed holding onto each other, but obviously highly amused be 'something' over in a corner of the room. When asked what they were doing, they pointed at the corner and said 'Look at the funny man Mummy'! Their Mother saw nothing and said they were having a dream. However, they still kept giggling and said..."LOOK"! Their Mum then became worried and asked what it was they found so funny? "The funny man"! they replied. It appears they both saw a figure in a clown suit, going through antics, smiling and pulling funny faces for them. Their Mother was shocked and brought the girls into her own room, where they related everything they saw. Barb' joined them and all 4 then went downstairs to the kitchen to stay together the rest of that night. Both Barbara and her Mother verified this to me some time later. I asked the girls about it and they also both said that it was true and that they were not frightened because the 'man' was so nice! The incident never re-ocurred! More to come yet... :diablo: ...........................Great , true stories everyone , this is part of what keep's me coming back to the forum . I really enjoy reading the entertaining post's , and contributing when i can to the thread's...........A big ......Thankyou ...to all who have taken the time and effort to post , as there are to many to name individually now......... :drinks: ............I recall a story my mother told me on many occasion's , about her and her sister when they were young and how they had been given sixpence each to put in the collection plate and sent off to evening mass , on their approach to the church they watched a bride and groom walking up the font step's and entering the church , but when they ran up to the front door's and tried to enter they found the door's were locked and the church was empty. They became very frightend and ran out of the church ground's , on the way home after overcoming their fright they decided to take advantage of the fact that the church was closed and use the sixpence they each had to see a movie...................They were each given a thrashing when they returned home , as a friend of their mother called and told her the evening service had been called off , because the bride and groom had been killed in a traffic accident earlier in the day....................I believe this story as my mother is a very religious person and despises people who tell lie's....................And i try to live by the same creed , except for the little lie's i tell women , being that they are beautiful , and that i love them , and will probably marry them.........All in the hope of spending the night with them......... :P ..................... :diablo:

Some more occurances at 'Kuruc'.
I just noticed I misspelled the name on my opening page...it is a 'c' on the end of the name...not a 'k'...(well, it has been a long while!), so the above is the proper spelling. As mentioned earlier, Kuruc was built as a doctor's residence back in the 1800's sometime for a Dr. Currell. It was taken over by my then G/F's uncle...a certain 'Dr. R', who ran his own practice from it. Her Mother and two sisters lived there with a widowed housekeeper/cook who had quarters of her own at the back of the upper storey. I knew her simply as 'Goldie'. At the rear of the house was the garage area...formerly the old stables, with a room above it, reached by a vertical ladder going up through a manhole. Noone ever ventured up there...[except curious me]. The place was full of nothing but spiders, old rubbish, an old cabinet and an unbelievable amount of old newspapers strewn all over the floor...Without exaggeration, it must have been a good 12" deep! A real fire hazard! I found nothing of any interest up there. In those days of horse drawn vehicles, Emergency Phone No's and modern fast ambulances on call 24 hrs a day did not exist, therefore an unspecified number of patients brought in for treatment, actually died there! Dr R's elderly invalid Mother lived there at the time also. She was bedridden and her room was the main bedroom seen as the one on the ground floor at the front of the house with the bay windows. Being bedridden, she never left that room and had a bell on the wall to ring when she wanted something. I never saw her. Sometimes she'd bang on the wall and we'd hear her from the TV room. Goldie the housekeeper would then go in to see what she wanted. She eventually died there and that room was closed off. No one ever went in there after that. .....(To be continued) This post has been edited by fester3156 on Jan 2 2006, 09:50 AM |
