I find it funny how many people think my dog is the opposite sex. She is an American Bulldog, spayed, but still likes sex. Since we have sex often, her vulva is fairly prominant, though not as much as when she had her first heat. (I spayed her because of numerous masses in her mammary glands, good thing too, as her ovaries turned out to be cystic.) Anyway, her vulva was HUGE, I had to constantly hide my boner :) So now, with her prominant vulva, people mistake it for "balls". I know for myself, If I think I see balls, I certainly look for a cock to get an idea af "hungness". And furthermore, a vulva and balls look TOTALLY different. Is it just me, or do these people need a really "up-close-and-personal" anatomy lesson"? Also, anyone else have this problem?

I think that MANY MANY non zoo's don't look to identify gender by genetalia unless it's staring them in the face  a bulldog is a muscular beautiful specimen  -and I have notice that a LOT of non zoo peeps automatically refer to a muscular dog as male... |

Although it is totally ridiculous, and also completely imposiible, all the time I was growing up, almost everyone that I knew always referred to dogs as male and cats as female. Maybe it was just that most of the people I knew didn't have pets and those that did had male dogs or female cats, but it is just something that I noticed and found very funny...! Has anyone else ever seen that that is true in your 'neighborhood' or am I just having one of my 'sometimers' moments? - sometimes I think straight and sometimes I can't put one thought with another....lol.
Closer to the intent of this thread, I never paid any attention to gender of animals, at least not most of the time, and still don't pay a lot of attention as it hasn't been of high priority to me in the past. I don't know that I would recognize the differences unless very prominent or was pointed out to me.... This post has been edited by BeastZeke on Dec 8 2005, 06:14 PM |

I agree beastzeke... I have noticed similar stuff... I NEVER noticed a dogs genetalia... not untill I became interested.. and even then I always find myself refering to other animals as female.. I have a female dog and I think it is just conditioning... my mother had a male dog... and still refers to my dog as a male... even though she will call my dog her graddaughter ... hehehehe

Hahaha... I remember this one "mistake" I made in calling a gelding a mare. I was at a horse competition and "he" had a very High Up, tucked in tackle that hung increadibly low and long. It looked like your "typical" nursing mare bags hanging. So, I asked the competitor how long had "she" been nursing and if she was heat breed back. The owner just gave me a curious look and asked me what I was talking about. I stated I was curious to know when her mare foaled and how long the owner waited before competing again. The owner then told me that her mare was still in the trailer and had no intentions of showing her that day. I quickly but 2 + 2 together and told her I was glad to hear it. *whistling*
I guess I was just lucky the owner did have a wet mare there or I could have looked pretty silly being an animal health care worker calling a "him" a "her"... ;) I didn't think I missed that lesson in my anatomy class... Guess even us "smart" people can be pretty foolish at times... *solemn look* -_- Til later my friends, may peace and love surround you always...
