i normally named my girls after i'd had them for awhile, and most of the time i try to give them a name that suits their personality. when i can't decide on a name i'll let them decide.

i "feel" a darling's name when i am introduced to them. the names always reflect their wonderful personalities. i tend to be drawn to extremely feminine names for females and very masculine names for males.

I like to name my pets unique names, and often I try to go with a theme, like the Star Trek fan posted earlier! :nerd:

If my animal doesn't already come with a name (Like my horse, Breeze; or my eldest dog, Fayla) I try to see if any unique name or idea fits them. Then I look in a book, magazine, or on a compiled list to pick a few finalists. Naming to me is a long and important process, it's something you're going to be saying over and over for many years, it's important not to make choices foolishly!

My two pups at the moment are (kennel name excluded) Icestrike (aka Striker) and (kennel name excluded) Cry Of Thunder. They are both fitting names, Striker is a masculine, solidly built dog with an ice blue coat and a regal demeanor. Thunder is small, quick, agile, and vociferous! I feel that they are very fitting.

I like to get my ideas from mythology, take a cue from the immediate parent's registered names, or refer to their color or personality. A mischevious clown would more likely get the name of Bojangles, Miss Demeanor, Tricksy, or Loki. A serious dog would get a name like Bruiser, Thor, Tank, Hammer, etc. Even if the "serious" dog is a Chihuaua or the "clown" is a Rottie!

Have fun with it and be sure that you give your animal a name that reflects the care and dedication you have for them. I am always saddened by the puppy buyers asking their family, "What shall we call him?" And hearing them say "How about Jake?" :(

Regards,
