My cat had been missing for three weeks today. She got out of the house on my birthday and I hadn't seen her since. I put flyers up, put an ad in the paper and filed a missing report with the animal shelter.

Today I got a call from a man that found a cat under his travel trailer labor day weekend. Deceased for a few days. He called animal control to pick up the body. He said that the cat resembled the description I had. And he hoped it wasn't my cat.

I had to try to identify her body....It was my cat. They said she was probably hit by a car and crawled under the trailer...to die. She was found a very short distance away from my home.

Her name was Caoimhe (pronounced kee-vah) Gaelic for "gentle, graceful, beautiful." She was three years old and I adopted her from the animal shelter. She had been abused and abandoned. I had had her for only a year and a half. I miss her so much and I feel so guilty....I should have protected her better...

Goodbye Caoimhe....I will miss you greatly, and I love you...

I'm so sorry to hear that, Puppy :( So very sorry :friends:

I don't know what to say, except that you can't blame yourself. Blame the driver careless enough to do something so stupid, without taking responsibility for his or her actions

I wish you the best, hun

I just wanted to post this quickly..

Today, a very dear friend of mine had to make the hard decision to have her dog put to sleep.. he was 18 years old Pekingese Chihuahua, and in very rough shape.. last year it was found that he had an enlarged heart and fluid in his lungs..the vet said maybe 6 months to a year to live..

As hard as it was to do, it was the right decision.. we are certain that he would not have lasted even as long as the weekend..

I am really going to miss him.. but I know he is in a better place now.. where there is no pain..

In my neihborhood, there is a chinese society that connected to chinese graveyard and it's also a park. There was many strey dogs in there and I once loved to play with them a lot. There was a group that I often play with. At first, there was only few dogs around there. Until last time that I went before things happened, there were about 10 dogs and most of all were female  One day, I went to play with them and I noticed that Ricky(Brown male, Thai bleed) got an unusual big leg that maked him hardly walked and also big stomach. I took him to vet and used my money to cure him but he didn't make it. When I went there to make him took medicine, I found him laid still. I was shocked at the first time and I cried after I buried him and went home. After that for months (or a year), the chair person of that society got bitten by a strey. In return, he managed to catch every strey to pound. I tried to stop but it didn't work. So, I gave up and tried to stay far from that place. After a month, I went there and saw only few dogs. And that group left only 2 dogs. I still went there until they caught again. I never gone in there up to now. And I had dream to have dogs after I have my own home. Here's a pic of them but not all of them (you know that taking animals picture is so difficult).

RIP patches.
My loving cat I had put down recently due to her getting weaker and weaker.

She died in the arms of those she loved at the vets and left this word with dignity.
I only wish we all were able to be given the same choice as humans.

She was 24 when I had her put down. I am 27. I do not remember life before her and she was there my entire life.

I remember holding her in my arms when i was small and falling asleep to her purring.
I remember moving out and sneaking her to live in the dorm with me.. everyone loved her.
I remember moving into my own place and coming home to see her every day.
I remember everything.
She was not just a pet to me. She was a family member who loved me unconditionally my entire life. If the movie " the golden compass " was real. She would be my soul.
I now have a hole in me that will never heal but I will live on and love again

RIP Patches.
Thank you for the joy and peace you have given me in life.
You will never be forgotten.

It wasn't real recently but I've had to part with all the pets I grew up with, especially in the case of my cats.

Onyx, my dog passed about two years ago now. She had a good run though. And was also the one with whom I set about exploring my zoo interests with. Fantastic dog all around. Infact, she's the reason I'm not sure about finding her predecessor. She was virtually a trouble free puppy, quiet, and smart as a whip from the start.

There was a time I was trying to teach her something. I got so frustrated when she wasn't even attempting to pay attention, so I gave up. A couple months later, I asked her to do it, which was to go get her dish when she'd carry it off....She went right to it, the very first time I aske. And all that time before she didn't even act like she heard anything I said. Boy, did I feel stupid.

So now I'm stuck with dogs I would like to have, yet dreading not even being half as fortunate as I was with her.

Ette, my eldest cat, passed not long before Onyx at 17 or so. At the time, I litterally had been with her half my life. She did get some good time finally being a lazy housecat when I decided to "retire" her.

Growing up my grandparents didn't like pets in the house. When Ette's eldest daughter passed before her. I decided it was time to take her with me. I don't feel bad about my cats being outdoors. They had food, love, and living out in the country, they could and did freely hunt for sport. They got to be cats.

Ette, if she were even 10 pounds heavier. She would have been intimidating. She was a very loving cat, but she had a temper. If there was something she wanted to do, she'd let you try to stop her about 3 times, then she'd start biting. If you really mad her mad, you'd have to fight her off.

She was on the small side, but she was a fighter too. Other cats, dogs(including a cousin's half wolf). She'd lost the tips of her ears fighting. We have no clue what, but she didn't have a mark on her other than that. We think perhaps a raccoon, which is odd because usually she didn't pay them any mind.

That cat was the 2nd time I ever cried because I was happy. She had a bad cold and wasn't eating well, and ended up in bad shape, fatty liver. Took her to the vet. They called later, she'd had seizures, and they didn't think she'd make it.

It was rough, but the day after. She'd turned around completely. They didn't have to force anything on her. She was eating, and trying to fight everything. When I went to see her, they told me she went after a German Shepard in it's cage. That was her, tough as nails and only about 8 pounds.

Then there's Blackheart 2nd oldest of my cats. Named because she litterally had a black spot over her heart. Her passing was a huge shock. 15 years, never sick once, aside from seasonal allergies. All that time she was an active hunter, and one of her favorite hangouts was the roof of the house. The one day she had a weird lump, and was gone the next week.

She was the first I had to put down. There wasn't a lot that could be done, and what could be done would have put her in a position she'd not be in. Indoors, forced feeding, as her jaw was affected. Unlike her mother, Blackheart HATED being inside. She would go crazy. And she didn't like being held, much less forced to do anything. She loved attention, and would follow me everywhere. She just didn't like being held.

And when I would be in a mood for a nighttime walk, just to enjoy the quiet country air. She would 8 times out of 10 be at the back door waiting for me. Or find me soon after I stepped out. And then she would simply keep me company.

Then we have Barkley and Webby. I wasn't with them as long. Webby was one of the sweetest animals I've ever known. However she had always been very sickly and that finally got the better of her.

Barkley was our "barn cat". That was simply the area she claimed. All the others were content around the house. Barkley was always in the barn, and preffered the company of dogs. We suspect her passing was due to a coyote. She was a good cat. Not all that affectionate, when anyone around. But just with me was all hugs, litterally, she loved to stand on her hind feet and hug my legs.

Out of all my companions I miss cats the most. I am a cat person anyway. But having been with them for so long, and asking for one for years. And then finally having a cute little stray, that gave us 3 great kittens.

It's a gap I really feel. Soon as my things and the house are more in order. I'm filling that gap with at least two.

What a wonderful thread to honor the passing of loyal and beloved pets. When I found this thread, I felt I had to honor the passing of all the pets by reading what each poster had to say about the beloved pet they had lost, before I could feel proper about adding mine. I can only hope that those to come will do the same to respect the losses of others, as I have done.

I would like to add the memory of my belove Mack to the list of beloved. Mack was just barely 6 weeks old when I got him. He was barely able to walk on his own. In fact we actually had to help him over the thresholds in the house for the first few weeks we had him. He grew rapidly and stole the hearts of all our family members. Born on March 21, 1999, we celebrated his birthday every year just like every other member of the family. He got a party, presents and his favorite treats. Christmas was no different, there were alway presents there for him as well. One of my fondest memories of him at Christmas was when he made off with someones gift. Our grandaughter had come over the day before Christmas because she was going to be at her other grandparents house christmas morning. Mack watched as she opened presents. He had been very patient not to bother any thing under the tree until that day. But after she had finished opening presents, Mack decided since we hadnt given him one to open like usual, he picked one out for himself and ran out the door into the back yard with it and proceeded to open it. Seems he felt left out.

His passing came as a shock because he had shown no signs of having any problems. He ate his evening meal as usual, played his game of "I stole your spot" on the bed before retiring to his spot at the door way to our bedroom. Which is where he was found at 4am in the morning when I had gotten up to use the restroom and noticed that he didnt look up to see who was there. That was the morning of October 21, 2008, one of the saddest days of my life. We suspected poisioning at first because after all he was a Rottie and sometimes terrible people do bad things to these kinds of dogs to rid the neighborhood of percieved threats, those fears are usually all in there head. However the vet report said that he died of a blood clot to his brain, and he passed quietly and painlessly in his sleep. My wife believes that since he didnt know he died, that he still remains at the house. Both of us have experienced unusual things such as feeling his presence. She claims that she has seen his shadow standing at the entry to our bedroom on several occations. I have felt his presence, which was so vivid I could smell his breath as I slept, but he was not there when I woke suddenly to see if it had all just been a dream. My Mack is not buried in a whole in the yard or favorite spot, we had him creamated and placed in a custom made Cedar box, which is ornimated with his birth date and date of passing and is the center piece of his memorial in my living room, where he will remain until the last of us (my wife and I) pass on, at which time he is to go with us.

Until such time, as long as I am a member here, and it allows an avatar posting, Mack shall remain mine as my memory of him. Even my signature is in memory of him.
