Many years ago I read a book about the role sex has played through histroy. In the WW I section there was a part infering bestiality. It stated that france had lost over a 1.2 million men. The author then claimed that due to the shortage of men, French women turned to dogs to satisfy their sexual needs. I beleive it even sited actual records showing that animal shelters reported a dramatic rise in male dog adoptions mainly from single women.
I'm just wondering if there might me any truth to this. Any thoughts? |

Must admit that this one escaped me as well! A very interesting thought though :D
Did the German women try the same idea I wonder. German and French losses during the 1914-1918 war (The Great War) were terrible - much higher in numbers and percentages than British and Commonwealth losses combined. And did we learn anything? :friends: |

Never heared about it, but I wouldn't be surprised if it were true.
I wouldn't be surprised if the men at the front line did the same then. I mean, especially in WWI, there would've still been hundreds of horses around (to move the guns, supplies, etc) but virtually no women. |

First I've heard of it...and folks, I've been running down Beasty references in literature for a long time...one of those things that kept me sane <if I can call it that.... :D > for a lot of years...on the other hand...necessity IS the Mother of Invention, so I wouldn't be surprised...As to the line soldiers and the livestock...that I doubt seriously...a sincere lack of privacy, added to the fact that bullets and shells were flying constantly would kind of deter it ....In France, there is a crew of twenty men who are STILL clearing shells from the ground after eighty-five years...and having seen the pictures of the stacked ordnance corroding merrily away...I have to say...NO, we haven't learned anything...
History doesn't always repeat itself...sometimes it loses patience with us, and sends the message with a club... |

I'm french as well, and never heard of something similar. But it's quite usual, our governement don't keep us informed of hot stuffs. This is common for all countries, you better know yourself with the help of foreigners that are not under the censorship of your native land... We just known some truths about what happenend during the war in algeria some years ago, so maybe in some times we will know more things about this subject. Thanks wifey for keeping us wise...

Unfortunately I can't really add any more to this. Just a book I read back college. 20 years ago now. :o The book wasn't about beastiality, so it didn't go into too much detail. For example it also stated the sanitation deptents in France reported a high amount of un-eated sausages being left in trash which led to an outbreak of rats all over France. The author claimeds that women were using them as dildo's.
So I don't really know what to make of the book's content. Carrie |

I'm not sure, but I read somewere that in Napoleonic wars, soldiers used to take along sheep and goat as company, that is not THAT hard to happen, even for vanilla people, I mean, look at jails, there are lots of reports of guys becoming homo while doin' time, just because there are no women arround!, as soon as they come out (of jail), they go back to hetero as if nothing had happened <_<
Human sexuality is far more flexible than what many people think, so people might just need the right mood, you know, candlelit barn, fresh hay as a dinner  In wartime, any hole is a trench... |

One would think that during the Napoleonic wars, they would have been having wonderful sex with the horses, well at least the cavallry guys anyway :P I know I would ;) Although those wars did have HUGE losses in both animals and men.
According to the BBC documentary on WWII called: World At War, the last or second last episode it said that the Russians came closer to Berlin and there were reports of rapes, tortures and bestiality. IF the bestiality was to scare or actually happen I do not know. |

Well, shucks...Let's not get too carried away...History is a wonderful thing...People actually write things down, at least afterward...Napoleon caused remarkable damage in Europe in his fifteen or so years...but one thing he did do, in acknowledgement of soldiers' behavior while "En Marche", was to organize and send Women to the areas where the fighting was...they were prostitutes and attached to individual units..."embedded", you might say(appropriately, perhaps).
These women were well-paid by the standards of the time...as opposed to camp-followers who earned their living as seamstresses or laundresses...or even widows...marrying again each time a hubby was killed, just to stay with a Unit...Those attached to the French army were called Vivandieres, and often acted as sutlers too...so the average soldier had outlets... As to the Cavalry, well, yes there were horses, but a cavalry trooper who got caught "En flagrante delicto" would have gotten laughed out of his unit... And...if goats and other critters were brought...I submit to you...They were eaten rather quickly... All in all,Carrie, I would guess the book you mentioned was going for the prurient interest with that chapter... |

 Read somewhere that soldiers of one side or another were executed for bestiality in WW 1! If that seems barbaric, don't forget they'd also be shot for desertion.. it must have been SO traumatic, just being there!

I have never heard or read about it. But I have always wondered about the soldiers in Vietnam (the K-9 units). Dark scarry jungles, the possibility of being seperated from thier unit. I know they were with the dogs 24/7 and became very attached to them.
Could be possible. |
