:sorcerer: I fixed it! Like magic, opening it up in a new window and then posting worked for some stupid reason. And how could you not like dogs that so shamelessly show off their private parts? :P

Collie
The first dog I had, and one of the best. I know in my Akita post I said I wanted dogs that were more of a challenge, but really a good dog is kind of nice. Breed Group: Working Colors: Tricolor (Black, Tan, and White), Blue Merle, and Sable (Tan) Origin: Scottish herding dog Size: 50-75 lbs Cost: Typical of most common dog breeds. It can vary widely depending on where you live, but shouldn’t be too excessive unless you find one with champion or great herding/competition genetics. Health: No major breed problems that I’m aware of, although anything could happen. Life Expectancy: up to 12 years Care, etc: Rough Collies have enormously long flowing hair, which is about as much work as you’d expect. Way too much. They can also get too hot in hot places, and I would always buzz mine in summer in California. There is also the Smooth Collie, which looks like a Collie that has just been shaved. Kind of funny in my opinion, but some people must like them. Trainability: One of the most trainable and intelligent dog breeds. Mine knew the commands sit, down, stay, come, heel, go inside/outside, go upstairs/downstairs, shake hands, and Kill Him, at which he would turn and attack me and bite my arms and legs. Seriously. Temperament: Very well behaved, obedient, and all that stuff. They need some activity, do great with other dogs, and are decent at being guard dogs. At least better than Golden Retrievers. They do have a herding instinct, which can show up with them kind of herding children around (safely and gently), or baby ducks/chickens, or anything else that gets out of line. Sexual Activities: A male Collie is just the right size for pretty much anyone, and shouldn’t be at all dangerous as far as excessive penis size. A female might be too small, although she may be able to take people of average size. I do need to qualify everything I said with this. All of my statements were based on one dog, who was by far the most intelligent and trainable dog I’ve known. However, my sister had a female Collie that was about as dumb as a pile of rocks. So if you get one and have bad luck in the brains department, you have my condolences. I've also had experience with German Shepherds, but I'll let someone who likes them take that topic. Sorry this photo is black and white, but it's the best I have of mine. Attached Image ( Click on thumbnail to view full size image ) ![]() |

Australian Cattle Dog
This breed is also known as the Blue Heeler, Red Heeler or Queensland Heeler. The ACD is a sturdy, medium-sized working dog, bred to herd half-wild cattle over huge areas of sparse, dry grazing land. As a breed, they are highly intelligent and free thinking, having been bred to work a good distance from their human handlers and with minimal supervision. This is NOT a dog for everyone; without firm but fair training early on, they will take control and there will be little the humans can do to change it! They can be extremely affectionate and loving, far beyond what many people might expect from a dog; more like a soul mate. Breed Group: Herding Colors: Blue Speckle and Red Speckle. Blues typically have tan on the legs, chest, muzzle and under the tail. There is often a solid-colored mask on one or both sides of the face, black in blue dogs and solid red in reds. Most dogs have a small, white spot or stripe on the forehead called a Bentley mark. Origin: Bred in Australia in the late 19th century from the Dingo, Smithfield Collie, Bull Terrier and the Dalmatian. Size: Males, 45-60 lbs., 18 - 21 inches at the shoulder; females 30-45 lbs., 17 - 19 inches. Cost: From a reputable breeder, typically US$500 - 900. However, pups from backyard breeders are often sold at horse shows and flea markets for as little as $50. Not recommended due to health and temperament issues! Health: Generally solid, but weak spots include hip displaysia, seizures and Progressive Retinal Atrophy which leads to blindness in middle age and older. Some pups are born deaf, due to the Dalmatian ancestry. There is a relatively new DNA test for PRA which most reliable breeders will have done on breeding stock. Life Expectancy: 14 - 15 years on the average. The Guinness Book of World Records lists one named Bluey who lived to be 29, but those of us familiar with the breed believe it was 2 or possibly 3 dogs with the same name. My first ACD lived to 17 years. Care, etc.: These dogs have a short, dense, "wash-n-wear" coat. They do not require much grooming other than brushing during shedding season, twice a year. I rarely find it necessary to bathe them, except when they find something smelly to roll in, which they LOVE to do. They have very little "doggy odor." This is NOT the kind of dog that can be shut up in an apartment all day and lie on the couch with you all evening. They are high-energy and easily bored. They need both physical exercise and mental stimulation. They have a high drive to work and need a job to do. Left to their own devices, they WILL become destructive (to the extreme in some cases) and possibly aggressive. They don't really need animals to herd, but they do like to be with you in everything you do as much as possible. ACD enthusiasts often refer to them as "velcro" dogs because of the way they stick to their favorite humans. Trainability: The Cattle Dog is highly intelligent and therefore stubborn. They learn quickly but become bored just as quickly. It's necessary to have them do an assortment of different things or you will lose their attention. "Positive Reinforcement" is extremely important! Find out what motivates the dog (food, toys, praise, whatever) and use that as a reward. These dogs were bred to take a kick in the head from a raging bull and come back for more, so a smack from a "puny human" only annoys them. However, the use of forceful or overbearing training methods will cause them to shut down or worse yet, rebel. ACD breeders sometimes joke that the dogs come from the "factory" without the OBM (Optional Brain Module) installed and it doesn't ship until they're about 2-3 years old. Then they become MUCH more trainable! Needless to say, they can be quite a handful. Temperament: When raised and trained properly, an ACD can be the most wonderful friend you've ever had. With loads of personality, they're loving, entertaining, sometimes comical and other times frustrating. They are definitely an "in-your-face" type of dog! They sometimes try to herd humans, especially children. They make wonderful bed warmers and an even better security system. They want to share every aspect of your life; to be your truck dog, to accompany you on horseback rides or demand to taste-test little tidbits of whatever you're cooking. I've read books that claim that they're silent... WRONG! They're big barkers and some have this ear-splitting SHRIEK when they get a bit excited. A few "talk" to you with an assortment of grunts, growls and woofs. This is a special dog for special people... but if you're willing and able to put the time and effort into raising and training and loving one (or more! ) it's absolutely worth it! Sexual Activities: Oh, yeah... the juicy bits. Cattle dogs are just as extreme in that respect as with everything else! They're a medium sized dog ad therefore not terribly well endowed, though what they have is quite nice. They go fast and furious and they're always ready to rock! If you're "knot" a size queen and/or you're into oral, they're fabulous! The females are generally too small to be safely penetrated by an average human male, though I've had one or two guys tell me otherwise. There is also a thing I like to call "outercourse" that you can do with smaller dogs, male or female, but that's another post... I'd be REALLY curious to know if there are others on this board who have a Cattle dog / Heeler as a partner or just a pal. I'd love a PM if you do! ohhh -as I mentioned in my opening statement -one day I saw a GEORGEOUS Snow White stud -I asked the owner -and she said he was an English Bulldog -but I don't believe this is correct -he looked much like a Lab -did not have the pushed in face -if anyone has a clue to what this breed might have been let me know -and maybe that's where I will concentrate research to add a post..

Akitas4me, the picture of the dog in the snow.. was that picture from a Japanese site? I was only wondering, because when I saved it, the file name was "Shiba_Inu_2" and inu is the Japanese word for dog. I'm not quite sure what Shiba means though

No, that was my picture of my dog. There's some discussion about the meaning of Shiba. It either means "reddish" or "brushwood" or "small". But the breed's official name is actually Shiba Inu.

:flowers: BIG THANX dtdab! my sister had a Purple Ribbon Bitch named pepper that I fell in love with  Pits are the ePITomey  of my personal idea of a lover -I have the hots for short haired strong breed dogs and it might even be a no-brainer as far as my future choice -but
they have been outlawed in the state of Florida :( :pinch: :( I am no legislative genius -but believe it was due to the abusive practice of training them for the sole purpose of fighting :( wouldn't it be more practical to just outlaw the trainers :) thanX again! |
