E. coli live naturally in a human's digestive tract as well.

Hence why you won't see me rimming a person either :P

Its fine in the lower tract, in the upper tract it can cause problems.

I don't mean to be curt to the rim-o-phobic posters, but saying "Just don't do it" to me rings of certain political factions in the U.S. saying the same thing about sex education.

Is it absolutely safe? No. But some of us feel compelled to please out furry lovers in this way ... if you can accept that, I hope you can also accept that there are ways to reduce the risk and safety information and tips is a good idea. As I said, the health of your partner is tantamount ... worms are way too common, and that is why I recommend only rimming your own dog when you've had them up to date with regular wormer and vaccinations -- which you should be doing anyway but sadly so many skimp.

In a perfect world, our lovers could look after themselves, but the human world is full of dangers that dogs were never evolved nor bred to cope with ... every day of health and vigor for our companions is another day of joy for us, so its critical to keep them as safe and healthy as we can. There are health risks to ourselves in being intimate with any lover, furry or non, its up to us to manage those risks and balance them with our passions.

Well said.

Purge worming only kills worms for a few days after you give it. By the time the dead worms are leaving the body in fecal matter, new worms are already growing. Purge worming kills worms in a cyclical manner, allowing them to grow until they cause the horse a problem, then killing them, then allowing them to grow again. Daily wormer works differently, but you still won't convince me to do it :P

Its your choice... you just won't ever see me do it!

Rimming just isnt my thing I guess. Its not something I would call repulsive, but it certainly have no want to do it to any species. But seeing other people doing it doesnt really bother me. If its your thing, its your thing. We all have different tastes, no pun intended :P

I think meticulousness helps. I would think there are daily wormers you can give, and might even be "homeopathic" remedies to help resist worms (maybe feeding some foods to your horse or dog increase their resistance to worms, parasites, etc.) Such information I think would be helpful and appreciated by true animal lovers of all sorts. :)

I've seen the physical damage worms have done in a horse that missed a single worming in her life... I treat mine as aggressively as I can without causing harm or causing resistance. The amount of damage they can do in such a short time is amazing and very eye opening.
