No special software is needed to do this. Almost all video players I have ever used have the ability to take Screen shot’s. Some may be a little different.. The best screen Capture I have found is the latest version of "Media Player Classic" and it's free. http://www.free-codecs.com/download/Media_Player_Classic.htm You might even want to use it as your default player.
Not only is this player easy to do s/s with but it also does Thumbsheets. To take s/s open the movie in player classic and pause at a sweetspot by clicking anywhere on the movie screen or the pause button (your option). 1) click on "File" (top left) from the dropdown select "save image" 2) on the save page give the file a name or number and select ".JPEG(*.jpg) in the "File type" line and select where you want the file sent then click on "save" The .JPEG(.jpg) now becomes your default file type. You can take as many s/s's as you wish by simply starting and pausing the player and save them. For "Thumbsheets" 1) from the dorpdown select "Save Thumbnails" 2) on the save page give the file a name or number and select ".JPEG(*.jpg) in the "File type" line and select where you want the file sent then click on "save" The player will randomly select images and create the thumbsheet. You can get screenshots from WMP or any media player using the print screen key, if you disable overlays. In WMP settings you can just disable hardware acceleration if you don't know how to disable overlays for your video card.
