I use a program called combi movie and does a good job of joining mpg's but does not do any other format.

I have to admit that I know exactly how truck driver"" feels. I'm not exactly the sharpest chisel on the rack when it comes to programs. I haven't been a member of this (great) forum for long and, if I see a split series of clips, I tend to move on to something I can download and play direct. No doubt, this is because all the pastures are green to me at present and there is always something easier to move on to.

I'm aware that, if I start running out of options, I may have to consider looking at file splitting programs and I've been putting this off as a "tomorrow" job. However, I'm a bit concerned at the problems that other forum members have had with such programs. The Rapidshare facility on PLF seemed to work fairly well for a while but has now run into difficulties. It was a great way to download large files. What sort of alternatives are there?

It would be nice to have both optons. Hj-split and regular download.

I would have to agree to what Mike said in having the choice of downloading either way.

Hi, first I would like to thank everyone who posts movies here. I've just discovered the site and it's enlightening and sexy to see how many people are interested in this topic. I would love to be able to view more files but alas, I am in the same boat as others who can't figure out the "split" movies. I prefer to just load-n-go with media player. Loading little chunks is fine with me.

Either way, thanks for this site. I'm thoroughly enjoying the movies that I CAN view.

This may be late but for the user who was having his files saved with mpg.mpeg extensions do this.
1. Right click on the filename on the board and then click 'save as" from the pop up menu.
2. when the dialog box comes up at the bottom you will see a drop-down box for file type. Click this and select 'all files'. This will get rid of the extra. mpeg at the end of the filename.
3. Edit the filename in the 'filename' box so that the last part reads '.mpg.00X' where x is the number of the current chunk you are downloading.
Hope this helps..

I apologize if this is in the wrong area but it seemed on topic.

Im having a problem but it doesnt seem to be the typical HJ joining problem that I can tell.

I can view the movies easily enough by using VLC player but when I join the movies I seem to only get the first 10 parts or so, it doesnt seem to add the rest of the other files.

I D/L the Best of Chessie Moore and MAD22. Chessie Moore should be about 58min long but after joining mine is about 8min long. MAD 22 should be about 360mb but mine is 11MB.

What am I doing wrong?

You have a corupt/short file in these movies which stops the join at that point...

Go to your folder and review the file size of each clip and if any are smaller than the others then deleet the short file and re-download.

Before re-joining the files again you must deleet the orignal joined file... Some earlier virsions of HJ will see the joined file and not write over it so be safe and deleetit.

HELP!! Can anyone tell me how to join clips that are formatted for 'Real' player? I have a number of short clips that I would love to be able to join together and watch as one movie.

Great site by the way! Inspiring to see how many other people love their animals ... and like having their animals love them back.

because quicktime tried to take over mpegs in your browser so you can no longer just download em -- look around in the browser settings to disable auto play of the mpeg format ( fyi , the movies are still downloaded into your cache and you can copy paste em from their - but thats as technical as i'm going to go )

first off thanks to all the posters :-) ..

personaly i like plain old mpegs .. tmpeg is free and you can split mepgs with it so it's not like you need anything special to do it ...
i would rather get mpegs mainly because i dont want to sit here and download 50 files just to get to the part of the movie i want to see , only to find out that it's somthing i allready have in my collection. .. much eaiser to skip down a few posts and get the file 5 mins into the movie and see if it's somthing i will spend the time downloading.

and mpegs are easy to glue , dont event have to have everyone ... a simple

copy /b file1.mpg+file2.mpg+etc final.mpg

works 100% ( i just ticked off some software company selling their "mpeg joiners" for $40 ) ... to bad this doesnt work with avi's .. well you can do some things with avi's but you still need the first file ( contains the headers ) and virtualdub is another free program thats great for that.

I agree with Zereack's statement, plug :drinks:  and play as you like. Skip through the files downloading what you want to view. Windows Media Player opens and runs the file with the index beside, you can check each scene out till you come to the VERY interesting parts.

Well, I prefer Hjsplit over everyone else, since you can have a mpg or wmv or avi or anything splitted and rejoin it later with Hjsplit, the program is pretty easy to use, not cause im a computing engineer, but the only thing is that sometimes the uploaders give the extension .mpg to the first file, and that makes impossible to the rest to rejoin the splitted files, I highly recommend you to follow the advice of Whiplash205, about saving as and there changing the extension to 001 instead of mpeg, well, probably most of you don't see the extension in the first place, since Windows (even XP) comes with the "hide extensions for known files" activated, first you need to deactivate that, for that go to:

1.- My PC
2.- Then go to Tools - Folder Options
3.- In there, change to View (thats an option above everything in the window, second option)
4.- Scroll down and find the "hide extensions for known files" and deactivate it, clicking on Ok afterwards

And voila! now you can see the extensions, and change the extension of the file (the last three letters followed it by a . in the file's name, to 001... then just open Hjsplit.exe, and click on Join button, there you will see that it shows the 001 file when you go to the folder where you saved it...

That's all, the good thing is that you can do it anytime, even if you dont have all the parts yet, call it like a preview of the movie, to see if you like it or not, really a great program and therefore used in this great forum :)

I hope this helps, since in my life I have fixed plenty of computers, and I always try to let the user knows how things work, and what you have to do when you are installing the System in the PC.

Demoniac.

PS: thanks a lot to zereack for its great idea of joining as a DOS command!!! amazing, now i dont need mpeg joiner anymore lol, and thats good cause that program merged them with trash and garbage between files!!!

The system cannot find the specified file...

another reason to hate bill gates

no matter where i put the file or what i do, windows cannot find it

I found this on another site, which did not work either:

1. Open a DOS window
2. Type
copy /B FLICK2a.mpg /B + FLICK2b.mpg /B + FLICK2c.mpg temp1.mpg
copy /B FLICK2d.mpg /B + FLICK2e.mpg /B + FLICK2f.mpg temp2.mpg
copy /B FLICK2g.mpg /B + FLICK2h.mpg temp3.mpg
copy /B temp1.mpg /B + temp2.mpg /B + temp3.mpg FLICK2.mpg
3. Then erase the temp and the *a, b, c, etc. files

i tried copy /b file1.mpg+file2.mpg
i tried copy /b file1.mpg + file2.mpg
i tried copy /b file1.mpg /b + file2.mpg

i tried everything but windows cannot find the file... i placed it under C: directory, C:\documents and settings

:crying:
