Im new here, what is the diffrence between a fur and a furrie, and how do I know what I am. If this helps I feel I was a meerkat in a previous life and have a spritual connection to meerkats and thier relitives. (Ferrets, minks, otters, skunks, moongoose, sprite, etc...)

Any help appreciated

I do not think there is one, and you are a fur. Do not get cought up in all the labels. They mean nothing in the long run and can and will change with the poster. Welcome to fur life. I am a otter. ;)

lol, no offense to anyone, but y'all seem like your coming here for questions...well i guess ya gotta start somewhere, right?

(hi otter girl!) and you, silly meerkat over there? yeah, you! the words "Fur" and "Furrie" or "furre" are interchangeable. "Yiff" is more of an adjective than a noun and is also used as a verb "to yiff" basically to screw th brains out of whatever has their tail raised. and believe me....there have been may forum topics on whether a furry is a zoo or is a zoo a furry and no, not all furs are zoos and no, not all zoos are furs. zoos are with 'animals' furs are with furs.
BTW, "MUCKs" are officially known as M.ulti U.ser C.hat K.ingdoms. anyone else up for questions? and the meerkat is whatever his heart tells him he is. you are what you are, and your a meerkat ( i assume) and hi! I'm also an otter! :w00t:
I'll be your tour guide through the world of furs! All aboard the magic School bus!

ps, if your not a fur, there's no way to really describe it other than liking an animal so much, that you wish to become that animal. but it's not nearly that easy in feelings to explain. I hope in some small way, that helped.

QUOTE (sark @ May 5 2005, 01:14 AM)
Yiff, from my understanding and being in one of the major furry hubs - aka sf bay - was, partly, pulled from from the {quote} cute {unquote} sound that foxes are supposed to make. That, and of course foxes in furrydom are very often typecast as the quasi "f me" types, running around wanting to ts aka cybersex. Often those are newbies to furry or those letting out their sexual energies through soomething that they find to be liberating, hence some people having huge wixxx lists. And then there are the people from furry that are called 'foxes' in rl - again normally because of a high drive or a high level of submission, or also the gay twink types. (read as 'fresh meat')

[But that's just from my observations of being in this region and exposed to it] ;)

Actually, the term "yiff" is thought to have originated from a "fox language" that a fur thought up near the beginning of the furry fandom; it orignally was meant to be the equivalent of "hi," or a friendly greeting among friends. Over the years it gradually became warped as the language was forgotten about until it became the equivalent of "f***" [though it's usually thought that it's only meant in the sexual tense, and unable to be used in other forms like f*** is, such as "you're yiffing crazy," etc.]. I for one have never actually heard anyone be called "a" yiffy, but rather "being" yiffy [sexually excited]. Of course, that may have changed without me knowing it [I'm in Georgia, and it's not exactly a massive furry hub like SF Bay].

Yiff-
1) (noun) Sound supposedly made by mating arctic foxes.

This is off the Urban Dictionary.

This is also the meaning that I learned from many furs. Foxes, being highly sexualized animals, are known to make that sound while having sex. So the term was adopted by the fur community to describe the act of cybering or having sex online.

A wealth of knowledge is at your fingertips between Google and the various Wiki's out there.

As an addition to this topic, you MIGHT here the word Anthro thrown about rarely. (Some sites make this their focus, though rarely.)

What an Anthro basically means you've taken something animal-like and have given it a human shape.

I know a Pokemon site that's basically a huge archive of artists and many of them make Anthro pics. Basically, it's Pokemon in the shape of a human. Generally, they are two-legged, two-armed versions of their Pokemon counterparts in the games.

They are primarily still animal-types however. They aren't "cosplaying humans," so to speak.
