I have some complete doujinshi that I would like to post on the art page, but some of them are over 50 pages long. I'd really rather not post them one picture at a time, but I'm having trouble posting anything other than a picture.

.zip and .rar are not supported if this forum is the same as the old one. I do remember people changing the file extention to .rar.mpeg on the old forums, then you'd just remove the .mpeg after downloading it and extract it. I never tried doing it myself before, so I don't know if maybe I'm not doing it right, but I've tried a variety of extensions and it just doesn't work. I also made sure the file wasn't over the limit of 9.77mb, it was probably closer to 3 or 4mb.

If anyone could pm me or post any help here I would really appreciate it.
Thanks

Also, I may just be missing it, but is there a list of the supported extentions somewhere?

somethingisnttaken:(nice name by the way ;)) For the changing of the fileextensions take a look here. I explained it there.
The best way would be to use a very very common extension, avi...

I hope that helps a bit...

Thanks for the advice, and I visited the link, but it's still not working. I can now change the file extentions, but I can't post anything. I'll have a folder full of .jpg images, I'll zip the file, then I'll change the file extention to xxx.zip.avi xxx.avi xxx.zip.jpg or xxx.jpg and every time it begins to upload, then gives me the error that that type of file is not supported. I don't know if maybe I'm having this problem because of something that was changed when this forum was redone or whatever. If you or someone could try posting a zip file themselves, just to see if it's me or if the forum changed something.

Thanks again for your help

Hum.

Might I add that there is a reason for the site-admin not allowing zip-files?

It seems a little weird that you all try to work around the block set by Beaker.

Hello. I am just curious as to why certain files are not allowed. There is some great zoo material out there that does not have an allowed extension. Why are .zip files not allowed? Any insight would be appreciated.

Hi ---2--- ;) ,

Again: what a pretty pup, your Avatar. I really like her eyes.

As to the *.zip: we want to control content:

1. Virusses
2. Unallowed content (such as, again, the example of child porn: it takes us much more time to verify compliance with the rules if people are going to use all kinds of compressed formats). So it's about transparancy of postings.

Give my regards to the little mrs ;) ,

IlikIt: Those reasons are sure understandable but sometimes its the only way to post something very big! Like some comics for example. There are some furcomics or series of animalpictures out there with a number way beyond 200 and up! I have a series of pictures of 680 pictures! All frames, taken from a movie ;)

Of yourse i could post all of them in a thread and gain another 680 posts but damn it would take me days! Wit the zip it would probably only take a few hours ;)

But i guess we have to live with it... ;)

somethingisnttaken: Another way could be to remove the zip extension and replace it with the avi ;) xxx.zip.avi ---> xxx.avi
You just would have to tell everyone they need to change the avi into zip again! :)

I understand your point HR, and I appreciate it. The thing you describe, 680 pics, is not workable, I completely agree. Do you have suggestions for a proper procedure that would both allow us to control content AND relief posters of the burden of having to post 680 posts manually? Would love to discuss it; maybe there's a nice solution.

Hello. Alright thanks that makes sense. We certainly want to prevent that from happening. I will give the little one a big hug and kiss from you. Thanks for the clarification.

Maybe it would be possible to run a virusscanner in the background to check the arcives. Yahoo does that all the time, you cant download or upload a single file without getting it cheked by the scanner...

I have a photo thread that runs about 30 pages (Ratvi Zappata woman and dog series) It took awhile to upload it.......I spread it out over several days. Some of my movie posts have been HUGE, I also spread them out over several days. Beaker set the file extensions most likely because of viruses. Can you imagine what a worm could do on this board? some 6,000 members and everyone in their address book infected immediately. After that the people in the members address book would be emailing everyone in THEIR address book, and on it goes. I worked for a huge company for several years (Netherlands based) that had offices in 70 countries, 80 in the USA. Someone downloaded a screensave and we had 4,000 of our own computers infected, not counting the thousands of people that were in address books that were not company related.
Zip files are the most common way to spread worm and "malicious scripts" The next is scr. files.
I would LOVE to be able to upload movies in wrar, but I understand why I can't.

Ok. That would be possible, but then we still can't control content of material (which, for the existance of this board, is as vital as virusses), as easily as we can do now. And easy is a prerequisite on this board as well, since the mods are not paid (meaning: it's not a fulltime job for them).

That's why I have been thinking about batch uploads scripts, to be used only be a selected group of users (members who have been proving they are thrustworthy and will not use such a script to mass batch up crap). For example, if you, or Pick_7, would want to u/l 250 pics in a batch by using a little script, that maybe should be possible. "Your average member" however would not be allowed access to such functionality.

Just thoughts, to help the creative process :D
