labrodors, german shepherds, and great danes are all wonderful dogs. do as hairbear58 has suggested and research the personality of these different dogs. also look into the different kinds of care and maintenence each dog requires (feeding, grooming, exercising, etc.). i'm sure that you will be able to decide which breed will best suit your lifestyle. ^_^

Yep, lifestyle is very importand! A lab is calm and smart and rather easy to handle if you rais him properly! But they're smart so they need to be entertained, they dont like to be bored and in the worst case they can get very destructive!
My dog is a labmix and he is a little bit spoilt and not very well trained but hes one of the smartest dogs i came across sofar.
When he gets bored he starts to play on his own, with his toys and with pillows, blankest, shoes, whatever he can get hold of...
In this way he allready ruined some pillows and some shoes of mine. And he dont likes to be left alonem but this is because of his past. If you train your dog properly he can be alone for several hours. But this shoulnt be a reason to leave him alone for 10 hours ;)

I cant tell you much about GSDs as i dont have much expiereance with that breed ;)
