i have a very sweet girl ,germanshepherd . i fell in love with her as a puppy and as time goes on ,i fall more and more in love with her every day .now at 5 years old i would like a piece of her to live on .i took her to my vet and had her checked and the vet said she is fine to breed and in perfect health .i went on the hunt forthe perfect mate for her and she excepts him as a friend .she has never had any thing but me inside her .and i realy dont wana watch another male doing my girl this is my question would she be more relaxed if im not there or would she be more relaxed if i am .would you want to be there or would you just let nature take its course behinde closed doors .this is hard for me because she is my girl and she means every thing to me thanks mop.

I'd be there, if I were you. That way she won't be alon or in the care of a relative stranger i.e. the owner of the stud.

OKhere'sthething: (one word)
In the wild of nature, the goal is for each pair of (whatever) to produce 2 surviving offspring before they die. Look at the potential birth rate: Dozen or so litters, half dozen each? How many failures occur? In the overall "Circle of Life" (Cue Elton John for the warm, fuzzy version), lots of pairs aren't successful, some die trying, some get chewed up or injured, it's all OK as long as the average births are more than the deaths. Many are born; many are lost. BUT: You are concerned with that ONE individual Sheppy girl. Is the "Let nature take it's course" rate of success/survival good enough? For me, no. None of my animals breed unsupervised. Dogs and equines in particular are very "dynamic" breeders, fully capable of doing themselves and their mates serious injury, as well as just flat "missing the mark" until they give up. Particularly a first time breeding....... One of the odd things about dog mating is that both male and female seem surprised the first time by being tied together. If one of them spins, rolls, or otherwise panics...... Watched a video here a while back of 2 white dogs doing the first time thing--Both of them spent much of the time trying to snap at the other's genitals. I'd say that if you are anywhere near as concerned about your girl as I think you are, you would not want her to be unsupervised, and I, personally, would not want to depend on the care/competence/attention span of someone else. Your call, of course. Mine would be for close supervision, and a steadying hand if needed. :D |

Just a little perplexed you want her to mate and reproduce like mother intended.
But you sound like a cross between a mother fearing for her siblings and an envious lover when the wife goes home to her husband. |

Just a few questions which, knowing you as well as I do, you've probably thought about already. Who will care for the pups while you are on the road? How many are you going to keep? Do you have potential homes lined up for the oes you don't keep? What does the owner of the stud want, money? pick of the litter or what?
Just wondering, LTD |

Picture the male dog as the sperm bank to get your wife pregnant for which you can not do. You will be the father to the pups, and still make a great husband for her. Dogs are not to much concerned about how or what they have sex with, in nature, their goal is to reproduce their species, and life will go on..

It's good that you thought ahead and planned out homes. there are too many unwanted dogs out there.
very responsible. :D |
