"That would depend on your definition of normal....."

Actually yes, most of the herds.

I use managed breeding practices-- the males and females of each species don't run at large year around. Selected males are bred to selected females at a certain time to produce babies at the right time. The rest of the time, the males of some species are kept with females of other species (lack of space). Sometimes a few of them hit it off. Certainly not all of them, and not all the time, but Sometimes........ :w00t:

And I don't always have a camera, either..... ;)

QUOTE (cabron45 @ Sep 21 2008, 01:13 PM)

I presume there may be offspring from a buck goat mounting a ewe, but one that lives could be interesting, no? :P

I wouldn't hold my breath, but I have heard of it. I think I remember 5 cases that were well documented by vet schools, DNA, etc., and probably others that went unreported. Not near as common as mules, but it happens.
One of the vet schools named the critter "The Rapist"--- Seems they have a VERY healthy sex drive...... And not at all picky about the species of their mate....... :devil2:

What little I found on goat/sheep hybrids was many offspring did not survive, and those that did tended to be sterile. Kinda like mules.

As far as Randy, yes, the two bucks I have seem to be that way, though they have slowed down from what they were at first.
I think my one buck wants to claim me as his mate, but he gets in the way, and winds up getting squirted with a spary of water sometimes.
His brother is a bit better, and getting sprayed doesn't bother him as much.
And it doesn't seem to faze my wether.
Waiting to see when one may try mounting my bitch, though presently she does not want to be touched sexually.

Anyway, the DNA is close enough that they do sometimes get bred, just not as good a match as horse and donkey.

But I don't plan to get one for crosbreeding, other than me breeding her, ha ha ha... :inlove:

I had a buck Boer goat that would mount my sheep.
And had a ram that would get all excited watching the goat bucks, he'd mount the goat does.

Well...... [crawling out from under desk]..... can't find the videotape slot in my computer--- [Old timey voice]
"By crackey, used to be you could just spool up the Super-8 film on one side of the ol' Apple II and it would come out the other side, and 32 hours later the 1.2 baud dialup would have it uploaded. Now with all this modrun stuff........"

OK, not so much. All the VHS was upconverted to S-VHS and recorded on DVD. So far the software to do DVD-to -internet has eluded me, as well as the software to hide the background (a must-have). I can select and edit images fairly well, so have to go with that for now. Want to get some of the pony/draft ready, but present household situation has made private time scarce. I can get a few minutes at a time, but anyone can walk in on me anytime, so I can't be in the middle of something......

Hmm, the Apple ][ types I had were:
Franklin Ace 1000, similar to a souped up ][+
Apple //E
And lastly, a //GS.
Oh yeah, did have a Mac SE that had a bad hard drive, and so had no OS on it.
But I never found that slot to feed a Super 8 into it. Of course, I did not have any film video anyway, ha ha ha.

Having to share the computer and space is a major drawback, almost a wonder you get anything done.

1.2 Baud? I recall when I was at 300 baud, and it took near an hour to send or receive a 140K floppy...
then I got a 1200 modem, and it seemed like going from a scooter to a Porsche....
I think the slowest modem I have hanging around now is a 14,400 Sportster.

I was looking at parts of the Roxio easy Media creator, and it looks like I might be able to copy from a DVD, but have not tried that yet. have to take a look and find one that I could play with to see.
But, virtually any transfers are going to take time, no matter what program or how one copies it.

Meantime, we can only wait for you to get the time and so on...

Oh, I can copy DVD, edit, make short or long ones, run 1/10 speed (Love the detail) to 100 speed, even copy to computer hard drive. But there's this weird firewall sort of thing between anything on DVD, or anything that came from DVD (it remembers), and the internet. People way better than me have tried for hours to find a work-around, and DID find (bless him!) a work-around for taking pics from DVD that could be reformatted for internet. I'm still finding ways to improve the resolution. When I have time, I want to re-do the draft/cow and donkey/dane in hi-res. I'm up 1 generation better than I was with the donkey/sheep, but they're still OK; the cow and the Dane quality is really bad, tho'. I was using an optical transfer process then, just to get anything I could post, and the different scanning rates of TV and computer pretty well shagged it........ :pinch:

yeah, most TV's, other than the Hi Def sets, don't do all that great a job, though using S Video does better with many. I have 3 TV sets, one plain CRT with S video input, not using it right now, one 15" LCD that is also a monitor, and it does S video, plus the usual hi res computer video, and has the RGB inputs that I have not yet used.
the newest set is Hi Def, and has HDMI input, as well as all the others, and can view the new digital TV off the air, including Hi Res. I can, later on, use HDMI from my computer, which does pretty decent.
but the old standard for TV was a bit lacking, especially when you run RF from a DVD player or VCR. but most of the time, I only half watch it, so doesn't make as much difference.

I have noticed that they are advertising things being out on Blue Ray now, and I wonder if it will bump standard DVD off like VHS did Beta (even though beta was actually better)...
Oh well. we move on...
