I think there is less of a risk with these animal diseases than there is with humanoid STD's. I think it is actually a lot safer with animals than it is with humans.

QUOTE (Garurumon @ May 7 2008, 05:32 AM)
I got a mod swearing at me in a pm and a suspension for my original post in this thread, so I couldn't reply earlier.

First I guess I should have mentioned the reason Brucellosis freaked me out so much is because I've had 7 or 8 of the symptoms listed on that wiki article, on and off, over the past year or two. Yes I've been to the doctor, but of course it's just assumed they're all unrelated issues, or a result of lifestyle conditions, which it could be, but I can't exactly ask him to check for a disease I could only really get from sexual contact with a dog.

So I was hoping for some proper facts about it all specifically relating to the beast community, ie, is that 10% of dogs thing correct? Because it seems pretty easy to contract from semen (or blood).
QUOTE
It was said already that out of billions of people, only a couple hundred get it. So its not that common. How many people are actually having sex with animals? Not as many; we all know that. So if these people contracted the disease from sex with an animal, they aren't going to brag about thats how they got it. They are probably going to cover up that fact.
That's what I'm worried about, also the symptoms are so varied it could easily be passed off as unrelated health problems (like it could possibly be for me).

Also, yes Brucellosis was "mentioned" in some threads, I did search for it and went through almost all the results, but there was hardly any actual discussion. And clearly there's people who don't know it exists judging by some of your guides... I didn't either. So I think this topic is at least useful to some people other than me.

Just go to the doctor then...don't mess around with your health. Just tell them your dog was sick awhile back, that he had a bad cut that you had to clean and bandage and you got blood on you. Mention that while searching for info on your symptoms you found an animal disease that seemed to match some symptoms. I'm fairly sure if you could get it from semen or sexual contact you could certainly get it from blood as well, so just use that to your advantage. Just be clear with him that you did have contact with canine blood and that you think it's a long-shot but that you REALLY want to see how to get tested because of concerned you are about it. A doctor isn't going to assume you're screwing an animal if you give a good explaination from the start about how you had contact with infected fluids.

Also, I can see why the mods contacted and suspended you to be honest, so try not to make it worse for yourself by publicly mentioning it further.

Brucellosis is a reportable disease, so they are generally pretty careful about it.

Garurumon...I don't think the only way you could get such a thing is sexual contact...it can be contracted among animals by ingesting grass from where an infected animal has given birth....so there is a possibility of a contact with the ground being the reason...If YOU think you have this disease, I urge you to go get checked...it can be contagious and it's responsible for spontaneous miscarriage in Cattle and some other mammals...so any female you might have close contact with is also at risk...If the Doctor asks...just tell him about the picnic you had last summer and stick to that...but please, don't be a " Typhoid Mary" because you're afraid of what the Doctor might think... simply don't volunteer anything he doesn't ask you for. I wouldn't even mention a dog unless he asks...and have you had your dog checked to see if he's a carrier?

BTW..Google is a far better source than Wikipedia...many of the wiki articles I've read have been pure unadulterated B.S.

The Disease also varies from animal mostly Dog, and deer, and also Horse, Animal sex is probably more safe at a cellular level rather than physical seeing your more likely to get kicked in the head trying to do something then to catch some weird thing.
