Recently a significant other have asked me my dog to have sex with.
The problem is that I am affraid I may either give HER a disease through our dog, or get a disease from her. We both agreed that before we have had full healthy checkups we'd not have sex without condoms. And with my dog, I have sex only without condom (he had a checkup for canines STDs) And because it's complicated to put on a condom on a horny puppy I'd have no moral problem sharing my dog with my significant other providing we are in a relationship. I'm a male, and she's a female... (Both human of course) and we'd share a Shepherd... What do you think? Is it too dangerous of STDs ? |

Well if you both have had std checks at the doctor then there shouldn't be a problem...plus I don't think a dog can act as a middle for disease transferring....I was under the assumption that there are dog disease and human diseases....and the two cannot intertwine.

This question has been come up on variouis threads before and has been answered by people more knowledgeable than me ...... I suggest you search the archives here on BF for the replies or do a google search as follows:
site:beastforum.com + disease That will return threads from BF ONLY on the same subject. As far as I'm aware STDs can not cross the species barrier but I wouldn't like to say for certain so a bit of reading on the above should answer all your questions ;) |

From what I've read in the various discussions about this, YES, a dog can transmit a disease given by a human(through fluids) to another human if the dog has sex with both people in a relatively short amount of time, within the lifetime of the disease/virus/infection.
Your precautions so far sound good, make sure you both are disease free, the dog though needs no checkups really because no dog disease can be transmitted across the species barrier, only human disease that can temporarily live on the dogs body can pass onto you or the human you share with. So, really, it's only human to human, the dogs body can just in some cases harbor the disease shortly without harming the animal until it can then pass on to another human from the animal. |

While it's true that most human diseases cannot infect our pets, it's important to note that you have a situation here that is (sorry) similar to sharing sex toys that may carry germs from a diseased person to a healthy one, so there's a definite risk of infection by transfer.
Also, for obvious reasons, little is known about STDs being transferred by genital contact. Most studies take into account only what "normal" people consider risky, that is, petting the animal or maybe kissing it. Bottom line is that if you two are healthy and so is your pet, the risk is probably small (there's always some unknowns, so it's not zero). If one of you has a STD, it's probably better not to share. Dogs need consistency.
If you have taught your k-9 lover rules for when you want to have sex, its important that you tech them to your girlfriend before she tries sex with your other lover. Otherwise your rules maybe out the window. |

If you both have checkups for STD's and they are negative how could either of you trasfer an STD to each other?

I hope that I can set your mind(s) at rest.
My girlfriends and I shared our wonderful dogs for years. It is only fair to ensure that both you AND your animals are disease free especially if you wish to exchange body fluids. Regular check ups by the doctor and the veterinarian will go a long way to ensuring not only the health of everyone but the pleasures gained will be enhanced by the knowledge. Pokerman |
