Thank you everyone for the comments. One of the biggest reason to why I keep writing is the great comments I get from my readers. So a big thank you to everyone, not only those who posts comments, but also to those who read this!
The last weeks have been really busy for me and therefore it have taken me a while to write the second chapter of this story. Now it's done however, and I won't keep it away from you anymore. So here it is, read and (hopefully) enjoy!

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Chapter 2

My new home

“But before you enter the island I want to know your name”, Defeline said. Had I really forgot to present myself? When I thought about it actually seemed so. It had happened way too much since I had met Defeline.
“My name’s Johan. I totally forgot to present myself, it has just happened too much…” Defeline smiled again and now she looked a little mysterious.
“Johan, this is just the beginning. This island is full of surprises.”
“What do you mean? What kind of surprises?” I asked her. Were there any dangers on this island she hadn’t told me about before?
“You don’t need to be afraid, Johan, you will just encounter nice surprises.”
“Come on, you can tell me!” I begged. But now she shook her head.
“Then all the fun will be ruined. Now go on and explore your new home. You have nothing to fear here. I will be here tonight again, when the sun goes down. Then you can tell me what you think of your new home and what you have seen. Perhaps I will give you some more information too.”
I realized that she wouldn’t tell me anything more right now. I sighed and looked up at the island. I can’t say I wasn’t curious about it.
“Let’s meet here at the sunset then, Defeline. Have a nice time.”
“You too. I’m pretty sure that you will have just that in the future.”
“What…?” But it was no reason to complete the sentence; Defeline had quickly dived down under the surface and fast swum away. I have no reason to stand still here, I thought, and started walking towards the beach. I had water to my belly button and when I started to come up from the water I felt the air cool down my skin. The air here wasn’t as hot as it had been at the sea. As I walked up on the beach I felt that the temperature was pretty much perfect.
In front of me laid the sandy beach. I smiled and walked up towards the field. Sand from the beach soon covered my wet feet, but I ignored it and kept on walking. As I moved farther away from the water’s edge the sound from the waves got more silent. I don’t know why, but it didn’t feel strange to not wear any clothes as I walked along the path. It felt…natural? I don’t know how to explain other than right. That was how it felt: Right.

This is a beautiful place, I thought as I looked at some crabs that were running over the sandy ground. I looked up and over the field. A few flowers grew on it, blue and red they were, but I didn’t know what species they were. I had never been good at plants. Animals on the other side, I was great at. Much of my knowledge I had got from watching Animal Planet, but also from reading different books.
As I came to the edge of the field I saw a path on my right that went through the grass. The grass was pretty high and if I decided to go through it I might trip over something which I couldn’t see through all the green. I walked over to the little path and started following it. The path was made out of soft earth and was comfortable to walk on for my bare feet. I noticed a pretty strange thing as I walked along the path: Even though this path seemed to have been used a lot (There were nothing growing on it) there were no prints in it. Not a single one except those who I had done myself. Hadn’t Defeline said that there were a lot of animals living on this island?
Well, I thought, maybe they just haven’t used this particular path for a time for some reason. There must be a lot of paths on an island like this one. But I hope that I will meet some of the inhabitants of this island soon.

Soon I had walked over the field. Now I was standing at the edge of the forest. The path went into the shadowed area under the trees. I didn't really know what I should do. It would however be nice to come into the shadow for a little time though, or else I might burn myself in the sun. So I walked forward and the sun was now hidden behind the leaves of the trees. The grass was now replaced by different, small plants which were growing at both sides of the little path. I didn't know what trees these were, but they looked like something in between oaks and a thin evergreen. Their leaves were shaped like ellipsis with pointy edges. They stood with quite a lot of space in between them but still their leaves formed a perfect roof which protected me from the sun.
Now I heard the faint song of birds. It got louder as I walked deeper into the forest and soon I could see the birds. There were quite a lot of them, maybe about 15 or so, and they were all sitting on the lower branches of the trees. I stopped and listened for a little moment. Their song did really sound beautiful. I had rarely, no, never before stopped and listened to the bird’s song. Now their song caught me however and I just listened for a moment. It was like I almost could understand them. Wait...Hadn't Defeline said that all animals on this island could speak? Maybe the birds could speak too then?
“Don’t they sing beautifully?” For some strange reason I didn’t become that surprised this time. The voice came from behind me and I turned around. Before me now stood one of my other favorite animals: A donkey.
“It’s sad that they can’t talk though. The birds and insects are the only ones here who can’t.” She (it must have been a she since she could talk) looked up at me with her beautiful, brown eyes and I felt how a warm wave went through me. She was a little shorter than me but I didn’t care of that. The whole of her was beautiful. The grey fur, which was covering her body, was in perfect condition. The black mane and tail lightly waved in the light wind. Her long ears stood up and pointed towards me as she asked me:
“You’re Johan, right?”
I nodded and said “Yes, I’m. What’s your name?”
“I’m Tuslie. I heard about you from the dolphins. You know, it’s not often we get visits from humans. I think that’s sad since we all here love humans.” A little smile covered her muzzle as she said this and I understood what she thought of.
“Well, I love animals too”, I said and smiled a little towards her.
“Great.” She looked towards another, bigger path that went to the left from where we stood now. Then she looked back at me.
“I was just walking a little when I spotted you here. Perhaps you would like to join me? That path over there leads to a glade where my friends are” She nodded against the path she had looked at before.
“Sure, I would love to do that.” She smiled again and then she started walking. As I followed her I noticed that the birds had flown away.

“So what has Defeline told you about this island?” Tuslie asked me as we walked along the forest path on each other’s sides.
“Not much”, I replied. “She told me that there were only female animals living on this island and that they could talk. But wait…How did you know that it was Defeline who brought me here?”
“Easy, she told me. I met here at another beach before I took my walk.” I found this rather strange since I hadn’t walked for more than perhaps half an hour before I had met Tuslie. What Tuslie told me next explained it though.
“Defeline is one of my best friends, and we talk quite often. I saw her out in the water and she told me about you. Actually, I was hoping to meet you” The smile was back at her muzzle again. I smiled back at her.
“Well, I was hoping to meet someone like you too. So I guess we both got lucky.”
“Yes, it seems so.” It got quiet for a little while as we kept walking. I didn’t really know if I should ask Tuslie about the island. After a while however, I thought that she might be willing to tell me more than Defeline had.
“Tuslie, could you perhaps answer me some questions I got?”
“Perhaps”, she said in a neutral way and kept looking forward. I felt a little bit unsure, but anyway I went on.
“When I first arrived here I followed this small path that goes up from the beach. The strange thing was that it seemed like I was the only one who had walked on it. Aren’t there any animals living there?” Maybe this was a stupid question, but I felt that I needed it to be answered.
“It’s quite a few animals living around there, but the most of us live in this forest. That path has just not been used. There’s nothing special about it.”
“Okay. So what different animals live here? And how does this island look like?”
“There are a lot of different animals living here, but the majority of them look like me and my friend. You will see soon, we’re close to my home. And about the island, the most of it is covered by this forest. But there’s also some low mountains, a few lakes, a big bay and some, long, sandy beaches.”
“Sounds like a perfect place”, I said. My words were totally true, this really sounded like a perfect place. I looked forward (I had been watching Tuslie as she had spoken) and saw how the forest seemed to split up before us. This must be the place Tuslie had been talking about. We walked the last bit and when I had walked around a really big tree I could see the field clearly. The sight I saw made me stop in amazement.

To start with, it must have been over 30 horses, zebras and donkeys in the glade. They didn’t stand in group with those of their own race like those you see on Animal planet. Instead they were all like shuffled. Horses stood with zebras, donkeys with horses and donkeys with zebras.
Almost all of them were all grazing; some however were just lying down in the grass and rested. The glade was bigger than I had thought it would be, but still the forest was close to every point of the field. A stream flowed across the middle of the lake and reflected some of the sunlight. A few flowers were growing on the field, but they were too far away for me to be able to see what kind of flowers they were.
If I had drawn a drawing, before I came to this island, of how my dream perfect-place would look like, what I saw now would be that drawing.
“You like it?” I heard Tuslie ask me. I slowly nodded with my head.
“This is…Wonderful.”
“I knew you would like it. Come on, follow me!” Tuslie walked past me. I was still a little chocked, but after a few seconds more, I followed her.
As I stepped out from under the trees shadow the sun hit me again. This time I didn’t care about it though. I looked around myself as I walked through the green, pretty high grass. A few zebras and horses looked at me as I passed by them. They smiled, and now both their teeth and the white stripes of the fur shone in the sunlight. The smiles they gave me was not evilly or so, but welcoming. Did every animal here know about me already? I thought. Defeline must have loads of friends.
Tuslie and I walked over to a little, grassy hill, close to the left side of the field. On the top of the little hill stood a pretty big donkey with brown fur together with a zebra. Tuslie stopped and when she did so, I did too.
“Hello, Tuslie” The donkey with the brown fur said. “I guess that this is Johan” She wasn’t much higher up than me, but it was enough for her to look down at me. Tuslie nodded and said:
“Yes, it’s him.”
“Okay. Eluos” Tuslie started walking up the hill. I didn’t know if I should follow her or not, so I stayed still until she looked back at me with a confused look. Then I hurried up and was soon standing before the other donkey and zebra with Tuslie. The donkey was the first to speak.
“First: Welcome, Johan. We’re all here very happy that you have come here. It was a very long time since we had a male around here. Second: I’m Louse, and this is my friend Perlou. We’re what you could call the leaders of this group, even though its pretty much more complicated than so” She smiled and the zebra, Perlou, continued.
“We hope you will enjoy your stay here. We think you will.” Now she too smiled a little. “You’re free to go anywhere you want to on this island…” Her smile disappeared and now she looked serious,”…but try to avoid the mountains” she added. By the look of their faces I knew that it was no idea to argument. I was a little bit curious though.
“Why should I avoid them then?”
“Because if you go up there you will most probably not return” Tuslie answered. I looked into her face to see if she was lying. She looked determined and I could at once see that she wasn’t joking.
“But let’s don’t talk about them”, Louse continued and I turned to her.
“Instead, I think that we should tell you that we have prepared for such an occasion as this one. You have for sure wondered where you should stay during your time here and what to eat and drink, right?” To be honest, I hadn’t come that far in my thoughts. It had been too much for me to worry about those things. Now when she said it though, I started thinking about it. Even though I had seen some small streams, which’s water I could drink, I hadn’t seen anything which I would be able to eat. And where should I head if it started to rain or if it became windy?
I guess I was lucky that they seemed to have prepared something for me.
“Well, yes, now when you say it so…”, I said.
“Great. Just follow us. We will show you.” With these words they turned around and started going down the little hill. I followed them and they gave me my first real introduction to the island.

I will not write down every detail I learnt here since then whole this story would then be about this. I will however tell you the most important things.
As we walked over the field Tuslie, Louse and Perlou introduced me to a lot of other animals. As I told you before there were zebras, horses and donkeys here. Tuslie told me that they weren’t the only animals here though. There were also dolphins, birds, goats, different bugs and more.
Soon we had walked over the field. Then I had got to know the names of some of Tuslie’s, Louse’s and Perlou’s friends. They were all very nice. I could still not really believe my luck. Did I really deserve all this? It seemed like the animals thought so anyway.

We went up in the forest again. This time we followed another, larger path which went pretty straight into the forest. Here the terrain looked a little different. I could see a lot of small bushes but none of them had berries. Also some small, almost blue plants were growing at some places, close to the tree’s bases.
After just a little while I saw something gray in between the trees before us. None of my animal friends said something. As we went closer I started to be able to see what it was. It looked like a pile of stones in the middle of the forest. I was very confused. Why had someone laid all those stones here?
Now we were so close that I could see the stones clearly. They were all pretty big and round and they had been piled up in what looked like a pyramid.
“Do you like it?” Tuslie asked me. “We have put down a lot of work on this one. We, well, not we actually, but the animals who lived here before us, actually rolled these stones here from the mountains.”
“But why?” I asked.
“Oh, I forgot. You can’t see it from there. Come here and look at this side.” Tuslie had stopped at another side of the stone pyramid and now I walked to her. I was rather surprised as I saw that there was a slope going downwards under the pyramid. There was a hole in the pyramid over this little slope, and it was big enough for me to enter. Now I started to understand what this was for something.
“Is this an underground cave? For me?” I asked her.
“Yes. It will be your home for a while. Then you can live with us at the field.”
“Why can’t I live there with you now?”
“You’re a human, that’s why. But soon you will be able to join us, so don’t worry” Now I got confused. Wasn’t I going to be a human when I had been here for some time?
“What are you talking about?”
“Didn’t Defeline tell you about this?”
“No”
“Well, I got to talk with her later. Well, I guess that you have heard of magic sometime, right?”
“Yes, of course. But magic don’t…” Then Tuslie abrupt me.
“Magic exists here, believe me.” I directly saw that she wasn’t joking.

That was all for this time. Please post your comments about my story here, they're really valueable to me :)
