For obvious reasons, it comes from the same place ( in general terms ) and performs the same function. Not quite so sure about the male hormones as they would of course be different from a human's. Actually semen has almost no nutritional value. It has some protein, but not enough to say it's a good source, especially when you consider the volume. Actually, in contrast, the hormones are very similar. I study animals, and took a class on reproduction. All the animals we studied (including humans) were pretty much the same as far as hormones go. There are a few differences but they all do the same thing.

There are different hormones, but the major ones, estrodiol, testosterone, progesterone, and the like... are all the exact same.

There is no benefit to the unborn child :) There are actually significant blocks for most hormones; the system makes only what they need. More of some can actually cause more problems than they help.

I studied a bit biology. I don't think hormone can go into a fetus from the mother. Otherwise a male baby would have lots of female hormone from the mother.

And male hormone from all mammals have very similar, if not complete same, chemical stucture.

There is a very complex barrier seperating the baby from the mother. It can prevent some things from passing but not others. Testosterone is produced in high levels by the fetus, especially a male fetus, and those are blocked quite effectively by the mother. On the other hand, there is some thoughts about antibodies to testosterone getting into the fetus's body and blocking some Testosterone effects, leading to the "predisposed towards homosexuality" syndrome, especially in mothers who have had several boys already.

In mares, either sex of fetus can cause the mare to start acting studdy due to high levels (for a mare) of testosterone in her blood, all produced by the fetus.

The system is so complex that some things are specifically targeted for protection by the placental barrier, but others are not, hence why alcohol and smoke are so bad for babies, but some chemicals are not. There is not enough testosterone in semen to cause problems; most of it will be destroyed by the stomach anyways.
