first post, yay!
I've been wondering something for a time now. My dog seems to show a prefference towards other males, both with dogs and humans. At first it was a general prefference; he just preffered to be around males more, and i figured perhaps it was a scent thing, or something, and left it alone. But I'm starting to wonder if perhaps it's even deeper than that. Is there any clearcut way to tell if my dog is gay? |

 Good question! Well........he could be but who knows. It could be the fact he feels more comfortable with the male sex as he may see them as non-threatening or non-compeating. He might feel like he's "just one of the guys" and just enjoys hanging out with you and/or other male dogs. I'm sure if you asked him, he'd just wag his tail!
You didn't mention if he showed any sexual interest in men and other male dogs specifically as in humping, etc. But I'm sure if you took the initiative with him (if you are interested) and started to GENTLY experiment with him, he will let you know either way if he is interested in YOU as a partner. I know from my experiences with one of my male dogs that he loves women and hates men (except me). He will be very aggressive with all men in general (especially ones with beards) but be the complete opposite with women and I could never figure that why. I have had him since he was 7 weeks old and have never raised a finger to discipline him. I never had too. I am the only MAN he has accepted in his life. Go figure??? He has been the best dog I have ever had. He just celebrated his 14th birthday. I can definitly say he is not gay as he never has shown any interest in me sexually from day one. Only other female dogs and he use to give me dirty looks when he's tried to mate with a female as to why I had him fixed. The only regret I ever had with him as he would have sired beautiful pups. Just enjoy and love him. |

Unfortunately you are asking a question that has traditionally had multiple answers. All of which may be wrong. Dogs often, in the course of normal dominance structure between themselves and other dogs, can display what are often misconstrued as "gay" behaviors. Whether an animal is truly homosexual, i.e. sexually attracted only to same sex members of its own species, is something only the animal can tell us.

Well horses can have prefferences to weather they like a male or female trainer. And they may have no interest in the oppiset sex of horse as well.
What does this mean? We all make choices and they do to. The fact some one prefers one sex over a nother is not an inportant issue inless you tend to live with this person or animal. Neutering changes many things and this may have something to do with his reaction. I had a male GSD who would visit often, he hated and ate men. We were instant friends and we had a wonterfull relationship. We went for long relaxing walks. We had a great time and enjoyed a lot of things. He was definatly not neutered. Rus |

No problem! Dogs do know the difference between male and female in all species but I don't think he will question his own sexuality if he gets turned on when having a good belly rub or having his sheath rubbed. As far as he is concerned, it just feels good. |
