You know, that is a very hard question to answer. What would I buy her that is special? I believe I already told you that it was very difficult to come up with an answer. I will have to get back to you on that.

I would probably buy wedding collars like Mono their. You know...like a diamond collar for my mate and something more masculine for me.
But I spend all my money on my dogs anyway. I buy the best food out their (Timberwolf organics baby!) I have health insurance on them... I bought a tempurpedic bed for them...a van for them...(they don't drive, I bought it with them in mind ;)) SO yeah...wish I did have some left over money to buy my mate somethin special >.< |

lord... my boy is Schutzhund trained, so I would hire a "helper" (that is, someone who doesn't mind getting bit while wearing a special sleeze or suit) and let the pooch work him over for a few hours :)

For 100 bucks, I will buy him a really comfortable bed, so that he can stay off mine.A bedbasket with his own matress and pillow and a soft blacket. Some playtoys as well so that he can leave my sandals in peace. As well as some dogbiscuits to treat him after a good sexsession.

Well, I have ordered a pair of plain purple collars for me and my mate, to replace the ones I used to have (cats destroyed her's), as well as a matching purple leash, and a new harness for her. Unfortunately, they didn't have purple as a choice for the harness. Still need to find decent wedding collars. Maybe a petco or petsmart might have one. But, my spare money (even though I don't really have spare money) goes to her and things to her. Just like a woman, huh? Takes all the money for herself. Haha.
I would love to find a white collar for our wedding collars. She looks stunning in white, as well as purple. So, mopar, you got $100 you can spare for me? *sad puppydog eyes* |

If I was able to settle down with that mare of mine, my first and only so far... I'd have to say I'd get her what I knew she would love the most... junk food and mountain dew and sugar cubes and unfiltered smokes to munch on... in moderation for all of the above of course... lol

As above, except for the colder nights or in the winter time. Then we snuggle up together under the blankets to keep each other warm. |

One of the things I love most about animals is that they're not as foolish as humans.
That means that they're not interested in such useless items as fancy collars, expensive beds, overpriced foods, etc. They love life, and they love their special people. Don't be fooled by commercials, especially cat-food commercials, which try to convince you that you're a despicable monster if you don't buy your pet premium food (the same food as the cheap stuff, but in a more expensive package), and feed it to them in a crystal bowl. The very simple fact is that all of these useless trappings are just that. Useless. The only thing your special animal knows is how special you make them feel, and how much you love them. That doesn't cost money. All you (or they) need is love. That's what makes them so much better than humans. They need the best care you can give them, but love and hugs and kisses and snuggling don't cost a thing. And they're what's really improtant. SL |

I disagree, pets need quality food, (as should people!) FancyFeast cat foos is garbage, I agree, but I do think pet nutrition is something that people do get taken for. But I do know what you mean about going overboard for your pet... ie 3000$$$ for dog cologne  http://www.lespoochs.com/fragranceVIP.asp |

Yes, but let's remember the recent debacle where Chinese ingredients injured and/or killed many US pets. The cheapest as well as the most expensive products out there were affected. The simple fact is that most of these products are really the same exact thing with different labels.
I agree that some products are better than others, and I agree that you should do what you can to give your animal everything they deserve, however paying more doesn't mean getting more. Also, I'm talking about dogs. No matter what I feed them, no matter how much I spend, they'll go out into the yard and eat vomit and feces and dead birds and rodents and soil and rocks. Tell me again why I should worry unduly about their diet. Again, I love them dearly. But they've evolved to eat, digest, and thrive on foods that we would'nt eat, and on which we'd get sick. My basic premise in my last post was that animals don't have foolish notions as to what their needs are. Whether it be a fancy collar or a fancy brand of food, it's all meaningless and unnecessary to them. I've had a lot of dogs over a long stretch of years, and none of them ever had any health issues as a result of their diet. And all of them were as happy as I could make them. SL |

I certainly don't want to make this a debate... but cancer is the number one killer in large breed dogs, many dogs livespans are shortened due to Cancer, I believe that this is due to overprocessed, poor quality foods.

Compare my dogs, who eat Timber wolf organics, to a dog that eats Alpo.
I've worked in the dog biz for a long time now, and I've been able to compare dogs who eat foods like Ol Roy to dogs who eat other foods like timber wolf organics (Canidae, Nature's variety, ect) The differences I've seen are: Better looking fur/skin/teeth, the older dogs didn't get growths all over their body, and better over all health. I don't think this topic was made for a debate about dog food (but since I'm touchy about this IRL I had to put my 2 cents in). If you feed grocery store dog food I challenge you to try a food like Canidae or Timber wolf organics. (and I'm not talking eukanuba or Nutro...those food are crap in my mind as well...and worse more is Science diet...I mean science diets first ingredient is CORN FOR CRYING OUT LOUD) Petsmart can't carry true premium foods like Solid Gold and other's I've stated. If you try a true premium dog food I bet you'll see a major difference in your dogs life. I rescued a 12 yr old dog from the shelter I work for and after a while of feeding Timbers Wolf organics she became more active. Even the volunteers at the shelter noticed a difference with out me pointing it out. Dog foods may share some of the same ingredients...but believe me...not all dog foods are created equal. It's the quality of ingredients (like no meat by-products), the lack of crappy ingredients (like corn, wheat, and soy), and the adding of good ingredients (a natural detox ect). Higher quality foods are also more nutrient dense. (meaning you don't have to feed as much). If I fed my rottie mix pedigree she would have to get 5 cups of that crap. She only needs 2 cups of the food I feed her and she's borderline over weight O.o This post has been edited by wolfcheetah on Oct 15 2007, 06:17 AM |

Hmmm... Depending on the pet.. if I had extra to spend..
The fish/eels/froggy would get friends or a bigger tank or new decorations in their current aquariums.. The puppy would get more toys and healthy dental treats.. The cats... Hmm. Considering anything I buy them already goes to waste, probably not much. Have all sorts of nice comfy beds and where do they like to sleep? in the dirty and/or clean laundry. Horse (which I don't have) Probably not too much, since I would assume I already have blankets, grooming items, tack, etc. Maybe just some extra carrots and apples. |
