Dunno why but now I have a dog, I don't want to have sex with him.
I love him but he is hard work and I think all the training and exercising I have to do with him just takes me to saturation point! I don't think it's a bad thing, because I didn't get him just to shag him, I did want to train and be more active and just enjoy his company and I assumed I would want to be intimate with him as I have been before with dogs and enjoyed it so I find it a bit surprising. But I am actually just happy to have him as a platonic companion. Instead I'm indulging my equine leanings way more, I have always found them *most* sexy anyway ^_^ Anyone else have this? |

I went to a friend's house after work today, and she has three dogs. Two male, one female. It was weird, as I looked into the most affectionate and eager of the 3, I totally thought to myself "Wow, I don't think maybe I'm cut out for a sexual relationship with ANY dog. I'm okay with just this and reading, watching, fantasizing etc". It came off to me as totally strange if I were to even think of anything sexual with this dog despire having learned so much from this board and read people's many viewpoints. It could have something to do with it not being my dog, and resembling none I've ever owned before, but it just feels like it would be too weird now/ too much, I don't know. I don't think I'd want to seek anything more than companionship. Well we'll see. This post has been edited by GreatDana on Aug 4 2007, 06:52 PM |

Well Renn im glad you can have the dog as just a companion. Maybe more "playful" stuff will come later. You may change your mind or something

Don't think that there's anything wrong with that.
I've come across plenty of people (and animals) that I've had no interest in shagging, but so what? There've been plenty of people (and animals) that were never interested in shagging me, doesn't mean that we didn't have a connection as it were. Not every relationship has to be about sex. Just enjoy it for what it is. |

I've had the same thing occur with other dogs that I've had...in some cases we eventually ended up being sexually involved and in some cases we didn't...sometimes it takes a little while to develop, and sometimes it doesn't happen...in time you'll figure it out.

if the dog hasn't grown to an adult yet, you might feel it's wrong to do any sexual activities with him/her. so maybe, like someone else said, it might take a while for you to feel like you want to get involved i guess you could say.

Not having sex with your dog isnt a bad thing, most just make good friends. Maybe later he'll initiate things and you'll feel different,or maybe you won't,it's also YOUR decision whether to let it go further. Some dogs will just be friendly, some will make an attempt and some will practically hump a hole in your jeans(hopefully not in front of someone)

Having sexual relations with any animal is a BIG step.
If you are not ready for it. Or you don't think zoo is for you.... Then DON'T DO IT! Last thing the zoo community needs is another person that felt they was somehow pressured into it. Just as long as you are still friendly with us practicing zoos. B) |

Great point that you just see the dog as a companion it is ok if there is never any attraction just be sure that you never neglect the animal. There are plenty of animals that I would never have sex with.

I must say that what you have - a pet as a companion - is amongst the best things you can probably have, ever! I find it far more exciting to think of my dog in an emotional way: Trust, affection, love, cuddling, understanding without talking. These are the best things a dog and I can share.
Sex is a nice extra that we share, but it's an extra and if the dog or me don't want it, well, that's ok, and nobody is disappointed. So what about you? You have a companion, but no sex. So what. If it works for both of you, there's no problem at all, and I'm pretty sure it'll work for both of you. So enjoy the relationship! Prank |

^_^ I definately know I do like dogs in 'that' way, I've had sex with one before and enjoyed it very much, its just strange how you seek to repeat something for so long and then once you maybe get the chance....the desire is gone!

I think that's fine, Renn. In fact, I'd say you got the dog for all the right reasons and are doing everything right.
Enjoy your dog just as he is. If you are happy, that's the main thing. LTD |

Its perfectly fine to be platonic with your animal companions. Heck a lot of married human couples go for long stretches with little or no sex, but the participants still love each other deeply.

Companionship with your dog is certainly a good thing to have, and one of the many benefits of having one, just because you are sexually attracted to them doesnt mean you have to jump at every oppourtunity, having a great companion and friend alone is worth it in itself
