Talk about a strange idea for a company.
Flexpetz
This is a company that allows people to rent pets for an agreed amount of time.
Was wondering what everyone thought of this idea.
Sounds strange to me, and not really in the best interest of the animals, although from what I understand they are using all shelter rescued dogs.

I really don't know what to think of this.
On one hand, they are probally better off then they would have been otherwise.
But, they would be using animals for their own profit by throwing them around like an object.

If someone started a child rental service I'm sure that would be wrong, I'm still not quite sure for what reason though.

I don't agree with this, I feel it could be considered abuse, pets are not just objects for us to do with as we please, they have feelings just as we do.

Like akaricloud said "If someone started a child rental service I'm sure that would be wrong"

How Ironic.. they say:

FLEXPETZ WILL DONATE FIVE PERCENT ANNUALLY OF THE DAILY DOGGY TIME CHARGE TO SELECTED ANIMAL RESCUE ORGANIZATIONS.

Like they are doing some good...

I'm inclined to disagree with that company. Observing strictly a matter of life and death, then yeah, it's better they be alive and rescued rather than sitting in a shelter with a chance they'll expire if not adopted.

However, it seems to me that there might be a high potential for emotional damage on these dogs. What if they are introduced to a family for a week, and the dog instantly befriends someone, only to be separated after the week is up? Surely that could cause at least some emotional trauma to the dog?

Well I agree with some, there is definitely a potential for abuse there. So I don't know how successful they'll be. In terms of sex, I didn't read through all their info, I would imagine it goes without saying that all the pets they are offer are spayed and neutered. But overall I am ambivalent. You get a pet for a long term companionship, and therefor you develop an intimate emotional attatchment with them. I don't see who you can achieve that kind of satisfaction from only having a dog for a few hours a week?

I just can't see the point of this company, either than to make money. The welfare of the animals has not been thought through. If a person could look after a pet they would get one. The thought of renting an animal occasionally is absurd. Animals get to make a bond with people and vice versa. I would like to think that any decent animal welfare [SPAM] would look to get this company banned ASAP.

:bad bad user:

I don't think it's a good idea either, I could understand why a family would "rent" an animal though, I see the logic behind it, it just isn't a good idea, not for the animal anyway.

If they would rent it then you could keep it, would be better for the pet and the family, that way it would have a family at least and not be thrown around from home to home.

Heheheh, well I'm probably alone in not being mortified by this site. Though I do find it very strange ... and rather interesting .... I think they're doing a good thing ... I doubt the dogs mind terribly getting new friends often (imagine they get fussed over a lot more than most) + it's good for people who can't keep animals to be able to go and spend some time with them?
