i have bin with my g/s girl since she was 9 weeks old .i have a large farm and wanted to give her the chance to be a mom.i took her to my vet and had all the tests done on her ,like her hipps etc the breeder was ready to go as soon as she went into heat .well she is in heat the breeder tried but there was no way she was going to let him have sex with her so she tried two other dogs with the same results her hair stood up on her back her head went low and she showed teeth i didnt even know she had .the breeder said i should muzzel her and hold her head so she couldnt bite her dog i thought no im not going to let your dog rape her and i help i wouldnt do it .he said then i should go to my vet andhave him put the seman in her .i still would feel my nerve doing that to her so i give up .i can mate with her any time in or out of heat .why wouldnt she want to mate in heat she has no prob .backing up to me tail raised i dont get it .did i mess her up that she will never mate with a dog or do you think her love for me is that strong .this is the second attempt at it with the same result .she is fine around male dogs as long as they dont try to mount her .any thoughts on this .

I think mopar the problem might either-

a) she is in heat but not yet receptive
B) she won't mate with another dog while you (her alpha) is there
c) she is used to making the first moves and doesnt get the chance with a strange dog to build that kind of trust

I really don't know it's just guesswork, but well done you for not forcing her into it  perhaps you can visit the breeders more often and give the dogs the chance to run and play together

She may not even recognise that male dogs are ABLE to mate with her - if all she's ever experienced is humans.

As for the litter... unless you're really sure you want to put her body through the strain of having puppies and caring for them - and then losing them if you rehome them, I wouldn't advise it. If she never has pups, she won't be missing anything. Female animals don't yearn to have babies - it's hard on their bodies, too.

I'm glad you didn't force her into it either - I've been present at a mating like that, where the bitch's owner was bound and determined that the chosen dog WOULD mate this poor virgin bitch, and someone had to hold her head and her hips in place. She was miserable during the whole procedure... and strangely enough, there weren't any puppies either.

I've heard that stress can cause problems in the fetus' development.

Well, I'd have to agree with Shylark on this one. Also, in regards to Alpha, if she's very Alpha herself (with dogs, not people), then it's going to take an experienced mate to breed her (one who knows when to push the issue and when not to). And as far as A.I. goes, it's fairly common in the show dog world (geography being the biggest obstacle). But it sounds like you have reservations about that whole issue, so I'm not going to sit here and tell you it's OK; just that lots of peole have done it.

My guess is if you've been her main contact her whole life, then she might not know (yet) how to act in a pack situation, and you not be there. If this breeder has THE male you want her bred to, then yeah, it would be worth trying to let them just run and interact together and get used to each other before you expect them mate successfully.

Just my 2 cents.

Sounds like she is early, is she flagging for the male?

My female will only stand for one of the neutered males I ahve, she will stand for him, and even tie with him, but when it came time to actually breed ehr with a CH. stud dog she refused him, even holding her, she tucked her tail under her legs protecting herself...

You can drug them and knock them out, but for me it's too much like rape, so I simply opted to go with an AI, it's not a big deal.

However in GSDs it is NOT allowed... so it's out of the question for you.

There is always the Bitch Hitch... I think these are awful though... you can google them if you so chose.

I don't think you fully understand what it is like to raise a litter of puppies, GSDs can often have 8 or more pups... that is a pack of dogs. While I'm sure your one dog is sweet how will you train all of these puppies? And how can you socialize all of them, I won't let people purchasing my pups to take home two at once, let alone 8 or 9. Many fatal dog attacks begin with scenarios like this one, where someone keeps a few puppies from their dogs litter, the dogs never get trained and socilaized (other than with each other) and they become aggressive.

A friends dog did the same thing they didn't push it and didn't try again.
Glad you didn't force her. ^_^

yes i fully understand what it means to have alitter of puppies .and i know what the demand is to keep them sweet puppies .i would never knock my girl out and do that to her never, ever.nor drug her in any way .i would never be able to look into those sweet brown and blue eyes again this was her choice to make not mine and she made it .im fine with that .her and my 4 other girls are house dogs the puppies would have bin working dogs working on the farm .herding etc.i will just have to finde a breeder that has puppies for sale and get a few one at a time .but the question was did i or me haveing sex with her cause this reaction to male dogs as i never seen a female in heat flagging away refuse a male dog .but she has no prob.backing up to me tail raised i just dont get it but its over thanks every one :D
