I am curious, I wonder what percentage of the adult population has zoo tendencies? I used to be able to find out the percentage but I forgot the website.
The reason why I am curious is because I live in a urban area and I know of 7 people that are zoo. Are there that many of us? |

Whatever the actual numbers are its not going to be enough until are numbers exceed 50% of the gross population.

According to the Wikipedia entry on Zoophilia:
Scientific surveys estimating the frequency of zoosexual activity, as well as anecdotal evidence and informal surveys, suggest that more than 1-2% — and perhaps as many as 8-10% — of sexually active adults have had significant sexual experience with an animal at some point in their lives. Studies suggest that a larger number (perhaps 10-30% depending on area) have fantasized or had some form of brief encounter. An internet survey of sexuality run by the internet survey site survey.net obtained 76,500 responses between October 2000 and December 2006. Responses to the non-specifically worded question "What sexual aspects are you into?" with options "curious/mild/heavy" included: Bestiality-curious 8671 (11.3%); Bestiality-mild 4582 (6.0%); Bestiality-heavy 3133 (4.1%). It's been a while since I've searched around on the topic of zoo occurrence, but last I knew there was no verifiable census of our population, either of active people or those who were merely interested. Common logic will say there are tons more people who are interested in bestiality porn than people who are zoophiles themselves. |

Thanks for the info. I think that even with 4% of the US thats an astounding figure.
.04*301,139,947 =12045598 is that cool or what? even if its lower at say 1% .01*301,139,947 =3011400. I got the us population from the CIA fact book. I dont feel so alone anymore. And thats just in the US imagine globally. .01*670,683,9622 =67068394 ^_^ This post has been edited by gpk on Apr 24 2007, 06:13 AM |

I am sure that there is a great "UNKNOWN" factor too - -the woman, who after becoming widowed - -or divorced -- gets a dog just for company -- and lets the dog lick her - and later have sex with her - - and is SURE that "No one ELSE in the WORLD would DO such stuff - -- " - -or like a former neighbor man -who does his cows without deaming that there is ANYONE else in the world who would - - - himfella :devil2: |

It's really hard to count. Because Zoo is always minority, they're suppressed by the majority, and considered insane, pervert, and even guilty. So most zoos tend to be conservative, don't tell anybody outside, and even online. As a result, the known zoo ratio may be a lot smaller than the real one. And having a zoo experience doesn't mean being a zoo, some only use animals for sexual desire when there's no chance to a human.

The common number is .1% - .2%. The % of people who have had sexual contact with an animal is probably much higher...

This is difficult information to come by. Most people will not admit doing it . so some who say that they do not do it are not telling the truth . It is like boys masturbating , I have seen numbers that say that 90% masturbate and the other 10% won't admit it. My guess would be that over 10% of the population have had animalsex and 50% have thought about it |

Well, not that many people are excited about jumping up and down to say: We LOVE animals.... no seriously, I REALLY love animals.
The social stigma alone is pretty damaging to a reputation |

Because of the social issues with admiting you are a zoo... You kinda have to guestimate. Kinsey claimed 10% correct? The numbers I saw last (from 1996) said 3%. So, somewhere inbetween maybe? Not to mention secondary zoo subcultures (like furries). I'd say they would atleast triple the numbers if you included them and any "transitional" zoos.

I'm betting that the internet has increased the number of practicing zoo's simply from the access to more information, how-to guides and contact to like-minded people. I personally don't think it matters how many there are simply because it's a taboo this community isn't organized to take on anyway...

This is like the question, "How long is a piece of string". There has always been a section of the community, who for what ever reason are more friendly with animals, but not necessarily with any sexual contact. Then there are those who truly love their animals, and I do mean sexually, either in giving or receiving. I seem to recall a TV series called "The vicar of Dibley" or something like that, where one farmer loved his sheep in the biblical sense and no one in the town took any offence to his affections for his ewes. ( If only that could happen in the real world.) The world out there is a very strange place, now we have the Internet where one can almost remain anonymous and say what ever we like or claim to be and do or have done what ever we liked. ( Just like in the days when the C.B. was all the rage, unless you recognised the voice no one knew who they were listening to or if they were telling the truth.) |

It is true that most to many will not admit being a zoo. So i say lets get together and try to legalize it. Most people against it just don't know the nature of it, they believe to be a horrible thing. If we open it up to more people, more will follow! (it's just a though)

A nice thought, but a very possible harsh reality. And legalize what, exactly? Many places don't have explicit laws against us, and yet we are still struck down by absurd charges of animal cruelty and neglect. Zoophiles don't have the numbers to stand up to legalize anything. Yes, there are probably a significant number of zoos out there who are "hiding in the shadows" so to speak, but they won't expose themselves out of fear for the sake of their own lives. To the general public, we're all just a bunch of mentally defective people, and the current estimates of our population will do nothing but enforce that view. Until a reputable source can verify a large enough percentage of zoophiles within the population, there will be no way of changing that mentality. If there was a potential movement to out ourselves, it could have a disastrous consequences of even tighter laws against us, or an active counter movement to make sure none of us are ever with animals again. |
