Just curious if anyone out there has ever responded to a personal ad, on any board, and it turned out bad. Specifically, the person you were trying to hook up with was antizoo or worse, just trying to put a sting on an unsuspecting zoo. Don't think it doesn't happen, is it Dateline that's working with that [CENSOR] selfstyled vigilante group, they're working to sting people all the time. Could it happen to us? Has it happened to anyone out there.

At first I thought this was in regards to electric fences that are sometimes put up around horse pastures. IMO, the ones that get "zapped" as you put it...are the stupid ones.

I've met over 100 Zoos in Real Life in the US in over 20 States. Only a couple have been people I wouldn't choose to meet again, but all were genuine Zoos.

Just once a Zoo I arranged to meet wasn't there when I arrived at the meeting location and I wasn't able to contact him from there.

Later he did give an excuse of sorts but I wasn't really satisfied having driven a couple of hundred miles to the Meet.

Still, part of that was on the way to the next Meet which I then went on to so it wasn't a disaster, just several hours driving wasted.

I don't know if he was genuine or not.

could it happen to us? yes, i believe therz a possibility is open to all of us, we just gotta be careful, dont be too open and really watch who your talkin to as well. Personally, I've never been caught up in sum'n like that, I hope I never do. I'll try to remain as careful as possible, I saw this thing on CNN about Dateline catching a zoo when the zoo supposedly arranged for a meeting, I felt bad for the zoo, cuz the CNN guy said "you see that camera right over there" and the zoo started freakin out, I would too that sux, then he got arrested. I'd have to pull out some James Bond sh** and start runnin  sorry a lil' offtopic there.

peace

I have seen several different cuts on Dateline and I have only seen the child porn stings. May they have many more...
I would hate for them to have expanded there work to zoo however.
Are you sure it was zoo??
If that were to be the case I would start to be conserned...

Age is a serious consideration not to be taken lightly at all..
The media is a tremendous force.. Wors have been lost and won by the media.
There driven to atract the bigest audience to make the most money and do not care if they are right, get some one killed or endanger the security of the country they work in...

I realy like the people here and the board.
For a wile keeping out of the public eye is the most emportant thing for our survival.. We can not force people to execpt us they must make the choice.
The child porn is going down thank god but if it stops there will depend if the public thinks we are real..and not dangerous to others or ourselves...

I have only seen bestiality referenced on Dateline twice, when two men they had already booked for soliciting sex from minors tried to make a date for bestiality while they were at it.

I don't think those two were actual zoophiles so much as they were complete perverts. Some people (hopefully most of us here) have honest attractions to animals, while others are simply turned on by being as offensive, disgusting and repulsive as possible. I believe the men caught in the investigation were the latter.

It wouldn't surprise me if there are people out there that have nothing better to do than try to make fake arrangements with zoophiles, either for the simple thrill of wasting our time, or worse, for the purpose of causing actual physical and/or legal harm to us, but I think we're a long way away from ever getting our own Dateline special. Jerry Springer (the king of smut) once had an episode about practicing zoophiles -- a guy that married his horse and such -- but apparently that was considered too extreme even for Springer.

If we ever appear anywhere first on TV, it will be Springer. Once that episode airs, then we can start worrying about Dateline.

I have done online dating for years and years... and for me the same rules apply whether I am meeting someone from a "normal" dating site .. or someone into a kink I might also have.. and because I stick to these rules I have only had on "bad" experience .. which in itself wasnt to bad but sense I wasnt expecting it.. it threw me off.. and I never talked to him again...

No matter what your into or not into you have to always becareful when meeting someone for the first couple of times.. you cant just meet someone online and then an hour later invite them to your home.. your setting yourself up for disaster if you do... and news shows are the least of your worries... not when there are rapists and killers out there that love to feed on your misery..

If your careful and patient you will very rarely have a really bad experience :)

my 2 cents

Agreed Wyldfyre,

My recipe to avoid nasty surprises regarding fakes on the web is pure and simple distrust. I mean, you cannot be sure of anything when chatting with somebody, only that there is a person somewhere at the other end of the connection. Their sex, appearance and taste are simply an image created by them; if thats what they are or what they want to be, who could possibly tell?

Thats why I never hand out any personal details on the net and have only met once in real life with somebody I got to know online. And that had been for business, nothing to assure me that dating online was trustworthy. So, I'd agree with Wyldfyre67; be cautios. Be very cautious. Better to be too careful than to take any chances that may prove to be your last.

Well "this" has "hit the media" every once in a while, and it will again.

Yes, be careful. Be very careful.

But don't let that totally block you from meeting others.

I've made some great RL friends from meeting people.

Taken to extremes, people who endeavour to avoid ALL risk, rather than assessing the risks, balancing them against the likely gains and losses and taking the ones worth taking, lead VERY boring and unhappy lives...!

(Rather like having sex with a stallion - as covered at great length elsewhere. Some risks are WORTH taking. You just need to understand the risk, minimise it, and be prepared for those consequences that you are able to foresee - having done your research).

I was sort of zapped once from someone apparently lurking online, but not by someone I intended to meet. Just someone figured me out somehow.

In personals I always meet in a public place, after chatting, if they seem cool personally. Even then, it's to talk. I think I've only really met a couple real zoos from online. Most I met in person, and they were all really nice who I met; even if I don't see them anymore. I can recall several people I refused to meet, and several people that thought my animals were sex objects and missed the point, but very rarely do I meet people at all, online or not, who genuinely mean anyone harm. Just I don't tell except family and close friends I'm zoo, and don't tell people online who I am, at least on purpose.

It's still risky though, making any sort of friends. I try to trust people, but it's pretty hard.
