I agree with Huskyman,
but they can have silent heats, where there is no swelling or blood, and you can not really tell they are in heat, but they are, only way to tell then is to put a male around her and watch his reaction, if he tries hard to mate her then seh is most likely in a silent heat, but i would tend to agree with huskyman, 4 years would be roughly 8 heat cycles, assumeing you got her as an adult. While it is not to uncommon for them to have one or 2 silent heats, it is very rare for that many in a row. one other thoguht, is she the only female? only dog? is there anohter female intact liveing around her? Sometimes a strongly alfa female can surpress other subornante females from going into heat, and while the alfa domant one is around the subordant one wil not seem to go into heat. I would recomend a vet check, as a vet will be able to tell very quickly if she is spayed or not, and can maybe look at her closer and see what's going on. I hope this helps you. feel free to pm me if you have any specific questions. Tundra |

I agree with Husky man, but if you know for sure that she is not spayed then you should see a vet ASAP. While a bitch can have a "silent heat" or 2 it's VERY rare to have that many and in a row. As for an Alpha she may be living with suppressing her cycle, that is a wolf "thing" that dogs don't usually do. Bitches who live together will most times sbegin to cycle together as opposed to one quelling the others' heats.
It could be that your girl has an over supply of progesterone. This can cause endrometriosis or ovarian cysts which are not healthy for her. In addition, if she begins to cycle again she'll be VERY prone to a pyrometra, which you don't even want to think about. A closed one (cervix is closed so none of the "garbage" in her uterus can drain out) can kill her with very little warning. Even if it was open so her uterus drained, the only sensible fix is to spay her (which you might have to do anyway but the risks with a "pyo" are much greater). If I were you I'd See The Vet! P.S. I've "been there done that" with a couple of bitches through the years. |

I agree let a vet see her and he will be able to tell what is going on.
Please let us know what he says. My prayers are with you and your girl, as are many of us here. Tundra |
