I had a Collie bitch when I was young. After we became lovers she never took a male dog again. I also have several mares who will not allow stallions to mount them anymore. One mare flirts with stallions but won't let them on board. The other has no interest in them at all and comes to me. Others like both species.
Has anyone else experienced this? |

Hi,old zoo,to answer your question,yes actually,one time.It never really dawned
on me before until I read this post. This summer I was at a park throwing disc for my 4 y.o. Malanois bitch(who ive been active with for sometime)while she was at the prime of her heat(and I know)when a mixed breed male run up,got a whiff, and attempted to go to town.As soon as he put his paws on her back she turned around and attempted to eat him! Normally I would think it was because she wasnt in the mood, but when we got home, believe me!, she was definitly ready for some action.Im not positive she was in the mood earlier that day,but I know my girl pretty well, and I strongly believe she feels Im the only one for her.I wont share her with another guy to test this theory(plus I dont know anyone zoo in person)so I will have to go with my gut on this.Like I said,Ive only seen this once, but a horny bitch in the middle of her cycle turning down a hot stud seems kinda odd to me. My verdict is that shes exclusive to me :D |

Very interesting topic for sure.... My filly is 4 yrs 3 mos and i have not seen her come into heat, and she has been around studs and geldings..... But she loves to get boned at every opportunity that i can... And readily accepts and loves me.... So that makes it very curious for me ???? Thanks for the thought provoking post..

Jezzabelle and Sofie,
Thanks for responding. I had heard another zoo here mention it and it got me thinking. I bet it is more common than we suspect. I also know that female wolves are incredibly loyal to their zoo partners, but then again theirs is a monogomous culture. OZ |

hello all,
yes it is on my opinion that female dogs can be very megnonmous towards you over thier own species. i have been active for many years, and have been with many bitches over the time. I think that the way you treat her plays a big role in it though, if you love her, truely love her and make love to her, seh will quite often prefer you over anything else, but if its just sex for you, and there is not much love, then i think they would not be so "faithful" towards you. I have watched several of my girls over time since getting them and years pass, that they quite often by the end of the first year thier interest in male dogs diminishes almost completely. My lab i have now, she is very strictly for me only, she will not let a male near her sexuraly, and have had the opertunity to "try" to share her with a very godo trusted zoo friendn, but she strongly said no, and he respected that, so i knwo for sure she is very strongly only wants me. I do think the way you treat them plays a role in it, i think over time they realize that it feels alot better with you, adn the love you show her is so much stronger than the male dog would, and i think they just prefer it. Another thing my lab does is she will sit and stare at me, like i am the world to her. she is VERY jelous over me. which brings an interesting question, I know there is a debate over wiether dogs feel emotion, but i know for a fact they do. My lab shows strong jelousy over me. hope this helps, just shareing my experinaces and opinion, I'm very female dog exclusive, so dont' have any experiance with mares or anyother species or any males for that matter, but i would think that it would play the same, alot depend how you treat them. have seen something similar happen with sows when they are bread with one boar when u turn them into a paddok with several boars they generaly only stand for the one that they have bread with before this is more common with the older sows as they a more ofthen than not larger than the boars any way and so can bully them of.
Have yet to come accorss this with any of my fillies but then they are genrally ai bread any way. |
