I bought a Vax vacuum cleaner last week. The model with the pump for deep-cleaning carpet. I really recommend it if you have dogs.
My bitch is stressed-out going through her first heat. Between her leaving blood-spots when she goes through the house, vomitting from stress, and nervous peeing, the deep-cleaner has been getting constant use. Also I've just gone through house-training a pup, and its winter so occasionally one of the dogs will get past with muddy paws.
If anyone is looking for a good cleaner to keep their carpets looking and smelling clean, the Vax is great. They're not too expensive second-hand either.

Good post for anybody that has pets....regaurdless of wheather your pet is also your lover !! Thanks for the info.
A pet can sometimes be like a child....as in they don't always know how to communicate when they are not feeling their best. And unfortunately....accidents happen
No need to get upset about what can't be controlled. Just do your best to deal with it....cleaning up can be a pain, but....like a child, It comes with the turf. You don't stop loving them. You try to understand, and work with them to insure that things get better.
If your dog is having problems ( due to stress ? ) What can you do to help relieve the stress they are feeling. Hard question sometimes, but well worth the attempt to find out. Both you and your pet will feel much better for trying. :D

Tiles are definitely easier to keep clean when you have dogs.
Addendum to carpet cleaning:
I woke up this morning to a house that looked like there had been an axe-murder. There was blood all over the house (and it was very stinky).
I thought my lab girl must be having problems, so I rushed her to the vet this morning. The vet said that no, she's fine, she's just at the 'high' end of bleeding bitches.
So my Vax got another work-out this morning, and again I'm very impressed with the quality of the cleanup.
My girl is going to have to sleep outside tonight though.

This is a nice thread, thank you. I have noticed a lot of people resort to putting diapers on their bitches, which i think look just flat out retarded. At least though she only bleeds in pre-estrus. I think they are a tad lucky in that respect.

I wonder if there is a better way to keep her clean during pre-estrus without putting 3lbs of cotton on her rear end. Of course, as with human females, the amount of blood is determined by the individual bitch.

As far as relieving stress, have you thought of body massage? Some dogs like it and it has a calming effect as in humans, though best done by a professional in the field. There is also cranial sacral therapy which I think is about the same thing as a massage. The elderly wolves at Wolf Park get it frequently throughout the year, especially Orca, who recovered from an early paralysis, and the wolves with arthritis.

I'll have to keep that brand in mind when I finally slay my vacuum out of frustration. To put it one way, it doesn't suck. Definitely one of those times where that's not a compliment. Thanks for the tip!

Thanks - I'll try it. The cleaning fluid that came with the vacuum-cleaner is pretty good too. Leaves a nice fresh smell.
The smell of a bitch in season is quite unpleasant, to me.

I have the Pet Stain & Odor Remover from Woolite, Walmart sells it, and it does a good job of getting the stains out. My little guy has the potty thing mostly down, he only peed twice in the house, but somehow it took him MUCH longer to understand that the white living room carpet is not a place to poop.
That stuff removes the stain, leaves no scent after its dried, and I checked with black light, it does not leave traces.

But yes, I will borrow my friends carpet steamer next week to do a deep cleaning.
