Here's a bit of a rant, but I don't know who else would understand.

At the local shelter is a dog that was trained and used to sniff out narcotics. At the age of 8 they decided she was past her prime and it was time for a new dog. Well the handler could only have one dog, so this one ends up in a shelter.

Why is it I must live in daily fear that someone might discover how much I truly love my dogs because society considers it mistreatment and wrong, yet society can train a dog to perform a task and then throw the dog away when it no longer is needed or doesn’t meet the minimum standard anymore? I can’t imagine turning in a dog because it can’t smell good enough anymore or can’t see like it used to.

The good news is that there is a rescue group that will probably take the dog, but how could someone work with a dog for 8 years and then just give her up for another?

As I said just a bit of a rant, thanks for taking the time to read it.

I can understand how this person might have to get a new dog to continue doing their job.... so this person cant be criticized for that...

but I agree that this dog should of never been taken to a shelter!!! If this person couldnt of kept both dogs... then this person should of made sure the other one went to a good home where it could live the rest of its life in comfort .... and not taken the dog to a shelter...

I don't know, but this disposable nature of most people is why I'm so repulsed my most of society. I still remember one night very well, when my neighbour and I were car pooling to and from work. We were on the way home, when out of the darkness a black streak dives RIGHT in front of the car. I slammed hard enough on the brakes to get the ABS clanking up a storm, and still smacked what turned out to be a Rottweiler square on the butt. Thankfully, she wasn't hurt beyond a knot on her rump, and setting of one hell of a kiyiing spell while she bolted to her "owners" house. Well, I kid you not, I pulled into their driveway, pulled out my 6 "D" cell maglight purchased from a law enforcement catalog, and proceeded to wake up the ENTIRE house from my banging on their door with it. Once I knew the dog was allright, I TOTALLY blew up at the people for letting their dog run around on a 60 mph highway, and this was at 1AM no less.

I care more about my dogs, than I do myself, and in all honesty, I care about dogs more than people. I would be totally and completely distraught if something like this were to happen to one of my dogs. To prevent this, mine are behind a 6 foot fence with a digging barrier around the perimeter when they are outside. My gates are all padlocked as well, both to keep them from figuring out how to open the latches, and to keep other people who might think it's fun to "invent" a problem from letting them out.

Take a perfectly good dog that has given 8 years of her life faithfully and unfailingly serving her people and the public, and throw her away at a shelter. I wish this site allowed profanity right now. :boxing:
