I'm very curious what you guys think about my favourite dog breed!
Rottweiler use to have a bad reputation as viscious or mean dogs (what an awful prejudice). Becuz of this they sometimes end up with bad owners who want a tough looking dog and this is just sad. You can make out of every normal dog a danger to society, even out of a tiny dog.
The media doesn't help at all. Here in Belgium a kid was killed by a Rott a couple of years ago, some politicians even wanted to ban rottweiler  3 weeks after the accident there was a tiny article in the back of the paper that told that the dog had 15 thumbnails in his ear  even I would bite that kid if I was the dog and already after 5 nails.

Anyway, I'm totaly addicted to Rottweilers, their the perfect breed for me; caring, extremly affectionate, protective, tough but puppy-like at the same time, natural clowns, good looking, willing to please you, ...
Also like other breeds but prefer them by a long shot!

Realy interested in what you guys think of this great breed!

I have nothing against the breed very cute and love the fur. the only part i'm not crazy about is bobbed tails. I love to see dogs waggin a big happy tail behind them. Other than that there great. I also agree with your starement about dogs being provoked or taught to be bad. No one or nothing is born full of anger, rage, hate, ect. It all the owner who inproporly trains fault if someone gets hurt.

I also hate how the authorities deal with the owners. they pay a fine and lose animal privilages for like 3 years. anyone who wants to or has hurt an animal they should never be allowed ownership again!

Wonderful dogs, great companions, the only bad ones I know of were made that way by abuse.

Rotties are very cool dogs. Very cuddly and affectionate! I do wish less tails would be docked though. I have seen rotties with and without tails and with a tail they look way cooler. I love them all just the same though!

My girl is a rottie, her name is Jade.

I have always liked dogs that remind me of wolves such as german shepards and malamutes and the like, but I have found that despite this, I think rotties are awesome! I like them a lot, but I haven't had one yet. :( One day I plan on getting a nice sexy rottweiler, hehe!

Wolfguy, great pic!

Right. Well, what do I think of Rottweilers?

Hum ( ).

I have always been crazy about animals, and of course dogs. The funny part is; I was scared to death of Rottweilers (talking little boy, 8-10 yrs old). Because there was one in the neigbourhood that did typically Rottweiler, though I didn't know that then. He was actually expressing deep feelings of "I am going to eat you alive" to everybody that passed the house where he was living.

I had a girlfriend once who had something with her longues (spelling?); a disease. So she couldn't have any dogs around her. So I didn't take a dog then. But she was crazy about me (who isn't -_- I'm cute; Italian thing B) ), and so one day she came home with a Rottweiler from the animal shelter; because of the short hair, she thought she could live with it.

Well, this changed everything I ever thought about Rottweilers. They are so sweet, so gentle, so kind, so intelligent (yes they are; trust me!), so "let's make love, not war", so reliable and predictable, and when it comes to fighting: they eat alive (my now oldest boy proved to me that a Rottweiler is even stronger than I thought; he was attacked by two pittbulls, and killed them both. Something I have heard a story about before, concerning the father of my boy who died in 2000, but I always thought it was bullshit. Now I know it's not).

So when this first Rottweiler was with me, I decided a dog needs a companion. So I bought a puppy (a puppy in order to prevent fights about the territory). However, the pup and the grown up Rottweiler didn't like eachother. So I bought another puppy for the first puppy to play with. But this puppy didn't like the first puppy, but adored the grown up Rottweiler (and the opposite). So I bought another puppy (yes, nr 4) for the first puppy to have a friend, and lucky me, that worked (pffff). So then I had 4 Rottweilers.

Over the years I have gained very much experience with Rottweiler behavior; I have trained them professionally for the army, I have done second opinions for judgements about "false Rottweilers that had to be put to sleep" (and, since I have yet to meet the first false Rottweiler, none of these Rottweilers were put to sleep; I observed, analyzed, retrained, and they went on with their lives in new homes). I even proved (on TV... :P ) how wrong all these self proclaimed "dog specialists" are by having a very agressive Rottweiler under control, he accepting me as the man who gives the orders, where all these "specialists", who already came in with a mind set of "he is agressive, he is dangerous, best put him to sleep, a Rottweiler like that is a huge risk for any environment and blablabla" couldn't do anything with the dog at all.

The before is not to brag; it is to illustrate that I "totally dig" Rottweilers. It's the only race I understand, and lucky me, I understand the greatest breed there is.

(I don't like it though that they are called "Rotti"; Rotti is food in the Carribean; it's Rottweiler (with a capital R, yes, that's the law :P ).

I had to let go of a number of my kids over the years, when they died. 2000 and 2001 where very bad years, when my dearest boy, and 1 year later, his brother, died. And in the beginning of this year my oldest died of cancer. Took me 2 months, and since last week, I am sort of coping a little better with his death.

So, still a lot "muppets" running around Da House here, trying to manage daddy on a day to day basis (and well, they have some influence here in Da House).

For me? Rottweilers, nothing else.

;) ,

ILI

Thanks ILI and Kimball :) I got the angle just right before he moved...

Hehe Adorable Kimball :D mine loves the snow too, races around with his butt all hunched over... flips his head in the snow... He can be such a wingnut ;)

I'll have to try gettin a picture next year ;) We get enough of the damn white stuff! Try up to 3 - 4 feet!

Hehe, I've always had a thing for rottweilers, since I was really young, and I went to a Dog Obedience Class (my mom used to teach) There was this big rottweiler, and he was as gentle as gentle could be... So smart too, Everythin by hand commands, Sit, Stand, Lay down, it was amazing :D And I actually could pet him...

Thats what changed my perspsective on the once Scary rottweilers... Then after having one of my own... Which also knows Hand commands, and spoken commands...

Last time we counted, I think we were over 90 commands... You can ask him for any one of his... umm.. 25 toys, and he'll bring whatever you ask him, He helps clean up messes around the house, if theres boxes, or socks, or anything laying around, he picks it up and brings it to you, without asking...
He knows:
(Hand Commands)
Sit
Lay Down
Speak
Turn around
Roll over
Shake
High Five
and Stay

(Spoken Commands)
Sit
Lay down
Speak
turn around
roll over
shake
high five
stay
stand up
pull it open
pull
let me see (if he has a bone or something, he'll happily let you see it)
Go get your: (Insert name of toy here)
Do you want to go: Outside, For a Ride, Check the mail, for a walk, to bed. (Yes, he knows the difference between each place... Ask him for a walk, he gets his leash, mail/ride he runs to the front door, outside, he runs to the back door, to bed, he goes to my moms bed.)
Also, you can ask him to "Take this to: (insert name here)" and you can send Papers, Bags, anything fairly light, around the house, to different people ;)
Whos here?
(Insert name of friends here) Is here (He reacts differently with different people, For some he squeals with delight, others he races around the house)

Ummmm BLAH! I know theres more, and he's never forgoten a single command, But I have! ;)

*gives Ilikeit a big hug* :( Sorry to hear about your losses... :( and Glad to hear your coping a bit better with it, and about all your puppies!

Take Care :)

I used to be pretty wary of Rottweilers - like a lot of folk I was influenced by the negative press they got and the tendancy for the local 'hard men' to have one for effect.

Changed my opinion when I got to know someone who had a real gentle one-he was a big softie.

Still prefer G Shephrds, tho'

Thanks for posting the pics you guys...lovely looking friends you've got.

ILI...sorry to hear of your bereavements, and glad you're feeling a bit better. By the way, my sister used to live in Northern Italy - in Aosta - and I used to visit a lot. Really love Italy...And the Italian women..Mama Mia
