i dont understand this ,i have spent many hours looking for the perfect breed for me. i finde it and then finde out that all the breeders say you must get it fixed befor it hits 10 months old .so let me get this right .im going to spend an outragouse amount of money on a puppy and there gana tell me that i must get it brokin .then some tell me if i dont feed it this food they wont garentee the health of the puppy .this is not helping the breed at all this is forcing people to go to back yard breeders and other places to get a dog there not doing there part there making it worse .when will breeders and shelters wise up and relise that the harder they make it on people the more people are going to go to pet shops and back yard breeders they boast about how many animals they kill eatch year they wouldnt have to if they wouldnt make it so miserable to get one ok i feel better now gess ill look in the news papper for a new girl i dont have to break

Sorry, man. Rare breed breeders want to keep other breeders out. Maybe if you bought your Am Ind Dog with limited registration (no breeding, no showing), they'd leave you alone. Of course, if you bought the dog and they never heard from you again, they'd never KNOW what happened at 10 months. If you plan on selling offspring tho', you're pretty much at the mercy of the breeders and registry.
Same if you expect a health guarantee over an extended time. Your pet's health becomes your responsibility the day you buy him/her. If you expect someone else to guarantee it, you have to accept their terms. You can feed, vaccinate, worm, etc. any way you like, and totally blow them off. If all's well, you done good. But come back in 2 years and say you got joint problems and expect them to be responsible, you'll have to have met their terms. Unreasonable to have to buy their food? Probably. But it's their game. You can play by their rules, or go it alone. Which makes you more comfortable? |

--EDIT--
Please note, for the record, I am NOT saying "Failure to feed "Billy Joe Jim-Bob's Sci-Fi Super Premium Doggie Diet" to your puppy is neglectful and abusive". Remember: a lot of the most expensive "special, vet recommended" dog food brands out there were in the recall for using Chinese protein in their formula, resulting in deaths. I raise and sell Danes. I do not feed "premium" brands. In my opinion, they are proven frauds. The Chinese formulation proves that. I'm just saying, if you want to keep any guarantee in force, you have to meet the terms....... ;) |

I was fortunate to get my female yellow lab from some friends, so there was no stipulation as to what I had to do with her. Have been taking her to the same vet my friends took her for her 1st shots, he suggested that I have her spayed but I refuse to do so & he doesn't push it. She is now 2 yrs old & have been feeding her Medi-Cal dog food, which is only available here thro the vet. It comes in the various stages of growth & she is now on Preventive. The stuff you buy in grocery stores or pet food stores is subject to real close study as so much of it is garbage.
