| umm no - not that kinda sub CNN had a report yesterday about how many of the worlds richest are opting for submarines to travel incognito however the report also included a wierd phenomenon about how dolphins become agressive ONLY when they spot humans being intimate - they bump the port holes and what not when they spot sexual activity - but they only do that when they spot sex |

| woah....i think they want in on the action...dolphins have reputations as being all cute and cuddly but they have a nasty side and they probably would rape if they got the chance. I read a book once called journey of thepink dolphins about the 'botos' in the amazon river (a pink kind of dolphin) theres lots of local legends about them all along the lines of them being amazing lovers and bewitching men and women and seducing them into a watery grave.... |

| Yes, it really sounds like a human misinterpretation Kinda like 'wolves are dangerous' even if no one can remember when last a wolf attacked a human. First, it sounds like it was an a rather short report? Don't forget, most people think 'Flipper' iof they hear dolphin. Most people don't really know how social dolphins usually are. So I'd guess, CNN heard about 'bumping' the ship and thought of it as 'agressive'. *shrug* How else would a dolphin ask for attention if the humans are inside a sub (I guess they were because of the related report?)? Usually dolphins are more known for playing with humans, even rescuing them than attacking them. So either the people made a sound the dolphins couldn't stand (rather unlikely), or they also wanted to play and some attention. Depending on how well the dolphins can interpret human sounds, I'd say, there is a chance, that the dolphins wanted 'in' on the action. |

Any chance of a link to the article? Not that its really relevant to this forum but have always had a love and fascination for submarines. |

| Interesting. Perhaps the dolphins see the people through the porthole and to them it looks like they are drowning, as they cant tell they arent under water. Or maybe they just want to get in there to investigate, as they dont have glass in their natural environment, so they hit it without knowing? Who knows, I doubt its as they say though. Its surely a misunderstaning |

| yeah i doubt that i would say that bumping the portholes was "aggressive" behavior. We all know that dolphins are sex fiends and probably want in on the action |

Had a quick search to see what you were talking about, so came up with this:
My guess isn't as much aggression or jealousy - the dolphins have each other to have fun with if they want - but just the first statement mentioned in the article. Dolphins probably just get excited seeing us have sex. And I must say, that feeling is mutual |

| Well the dolphin is a very sexual creature, just as we are. They are the only other mammal that has sex for pleasure. They share many of the same feelings that we do. So yes I think they are getting jealous, and would like to join in. I would love to go out on the ocean in a boat, and find a dolphin. Get in the water, and see what happens. Who knows, I might end up with a story for the forum!! |

| sounds pretty close to the mark to me,, dolphins are amazingly social animals, and true zoos themselves. I have been lucky enough to spend quite a bit of time with wild dolphins, and also have known a couple of dolphin trainers. talk with anyone who trains dolphins and if you get them started on how horny they are then you will be in for a long chat,, I have heard of dolphins that could not be put in public displays because whenever a trainer was in the water and not paying attention they would ambush him from behind and hump him like crazy,, usually that is young captive bred dolphins, and they eventually grow out of it. as far as the subs go, I think the dolphin paparazzi would be an absolute turn on, I kinda like the idea of being watched, but being watched by a pod of jealous dolphins that want in on the action would be great!! only I would probably forget what I was doing in the sub and want a swim with the nosy cetations. Hmm I wonder what kind of reaction they would have if you were getting it on with a dog insted of another person? someone should try that and let me know the results.. |
